The upcoming open-world single-player RPG Star Wars Outlaws from Massive Entertainment is a release that everyone’s got their eyes on. There’s never been a game in the franchise of this scale, and with the team at Massive taking on such a ‘massive’ project, there’s a lot of pressure and expectations to meet.
Massive’s creative director Julian Gerighty and game director Mathias Karlson recently took part in an interview to give people a better idea of what to expect, including its interesting reputation system.

One of the most interesting facets of Star Wars Outlaws is its reputation tracking system and how it works with the many syndicates involved (Hutts, Pukes, Crimson Dawn, and Ashiga Clan).
As explained in an interview with IGN, the way the team at Massive has designed this is to perfectly integrate with how the game’s universe works.
Your reputation can vastly affect your relationship with these syndicates and unlock things for you. This includes things like access to certain territories, landing pads, and discounts with traders who are part of certain syndicates.
You’ll have to be careful, however, as having a terrible reputation can really switch things up for the worse as Karlson puts it:
But if you really get on their bad side, that’s another thing that you’ll feel dynamically in the game because they actually send hit squads out for you in the open world to try and take you out.
Sounds like racking up a bad reputation with all the syndicates would make for an exciting challenge run.
Say Goodbye to the Classic Leveling System

Massive has done a complete 180 on the classic leveling system, making character progression in Star Wars Outlaws more intuitive and natural.
You won’t need to level Kay Vess or pour points into her stats, as mentioned in the interview.
Instead, Vess will experience all her progression as she meets new people throughout the game, who can give her new equipment and abilities. These aren’t just your run-of-the-mill copy-pasted merchants, though.
They are full-on characters. So they’re spread out in the world and you don’t know exactly who they are, what exactly they have to offer you, and how to reach them from the very beginning. So there’s this journey of discovery here as well.
As you find them, you’ll have to earn their trust by completing work before they start giving you the stuff you need.
Karlson mentions that these characters are tied to regional progression as well, so exploration will hold a lot of value.
