From all that we’ve seen so far, Star Wars Outlaws is gearing up to be a real treat for fans of the franchise and gaming in general. Promising a fresh take by putting non-Jedi characters and the lives of outlaws in focus, the game clearly has a lot more going for it than a bog-standard Ubisoft title.

Speaking of outlaws, though, Julian Gerighty, the creative director at Massive Entertainment, spilled some juicy details in a recent interview that reaffirms that this game may just be a true gem in the making.

After seeing all the previews, trailers, and interviews surrounding Star Wars Outlaws, it is clear that Ubisoft is actually putting in some effort for this title, ensuring that it comes out as one of the biggest success stories of 2024.

In a recent interview, the game’s director, Mathias Karlson, shared some more tidbits about the game, but one thing that caught our eye the most was his mention of the game’s overworld and its systems.

He explained how the game will feature a unique system that the team is calling the “living world systems,” saying:

So, same thing here. We have systems that make sure that the world is always alive with movement, traffic, speeders, zipping around the Empire, patrolling syndicates have footholds out there, and these can cross paths. Also sometimes more substantial events happen and it’s really up to you if you want to engage or not.

Elaborating further, he explained how the Syndicates will also function as regular cops in the game. Given how Star Wars Outlaws takes place right after The Empire Strikes Back, this does add up.

Make one mistake, and it will surely spell trouble for Kay and Nix. Make a few more mistakes, and the severity of the actions will bring increasingly more formidable “cops” to hunt you down.

All in all, it seems like an excellent addition from Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft that will add a layer of strategy to our adventures, making every good decision or error impactful and risky.

Star Wars Outlaws Is a Departure From Ubisoft’s Aged Game Design

While fans are busy trying to make up their mind about the game, let us take a moment to consider just how different Star Wars Outlaws feels from the usual quality we’ve come to expect from the company these past few years.

Unlike traditional Ubisoft games, which often rely on things like tower climbing to unlock regions and then completing the experience going from one map marker to another, Outlaws seems to be offering a more dynamic and immersive experience – the integration of the system we just discussed is another instance of this.

The trailers also promise the ability to have our actions, alliances, and rivalries affect the overworld, which will undoubtedly add a layer of flexibility that is often missing in Ubisoft’s games. Now, whether or not the company will deliver on its promises, only time will tell once the game finally arrives next month.

With that said, what are your thoughts on Star Wars Outlaws so far? Will it truly be different than Ubisoft’s other offerings? Let us know in the comments below.
