Dave Filoni is responsible for fleshing out much of the Clone Wars with his brilliant animated series. However, there was also a film that the director worked on that introduced Ahsoka Tano as Anakin’s padwan, called Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
This film was well received and beloved by fans, and while there has been an entire show covering what happens in the wake of it, Dave Filoni revealed in 2011 that there might be a chance that fans could get more of it, but only if George Lucas was up for it.
Dave Filoni would happily make a second Clone Wars film
While the story of The Clone Wars has been carried over to other installments of the franchise like Star Wars: Rebels, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Bad Batch and more, Filoni’s promise in 2011 might still ring true, but holds less water now. Speaking to Den of Geek, with regards to whether there will be more Clone Wars films, Dave Filoni said:
I would love to and I think it would work, but it’s up to George. I’m all for it.
While there might not be much now in terms of stories to tell from the era, another Clone Wars film could follow characters after the Clone Wars whom we did not see in the stories that came after. It would be interesting to see Captain Rex’s journey, even though a significant amount of it has always been part of the stories that Filoni has tried to tell.
The Mandalorian has already created a template for more stories in eras that have been thoroughly fleshed out
Suppose indeed Dave Filoni is interested in making more Clone Wars content. In that case, the director can take inspiration from The Mandalorian, by introducing characters into the universe that have a unique take on a tried and tested concept in the story. A similar approach can be attributed to the Bad Batch, whose inclusion in the story allowed viewers to stay in/near the Clone Wars era a little longer, without having to deal with more of the same, while also being an homage to the EU.
If there absolutely has to be a second Clone Wars film, it would be interesting to see how the Star Wars timeline, as it stands under Disney, could adapt to the Kamino uprising. An important part of Clone history in the Legends Timeline, and despite The Bad Batch showing us how the Empire phased out clones, the Kamino Uprising could be a novel taken in the term ‘Clone Wars’ and could be explained as not being common knowledge thanks to the Empire erasing any record of it.
Further, given that cloning plays a huge part in the section of the Filoniverse, it is also possible that this could be tied in with the resurgence of The Empire.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars can be streamed on Disney+
