In the world of manga, there is hardly any mangaka who can write and draw combat as well as Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter. Togashi’s intricate and diverse fight scenarios are greatly appreciated by the industry, as they have changed the traditional fighting styles that have been portrayed since the beginning.

He was one of the very first manga creators who imbued layers and complexities in a fight that made them more intriguing and entertaining for the fans. While the mangaka had stunned the entire industry with his action sequences, Togashi himself was impressed by another manga creator and even praised him for his fight scenes.
This mangaka is none other than Masashi Kishimoto, and Togashi once talked about how great the battle scenes in Naruto were. Not only that, he even revealed his favorite fight scene that involved the protagonist, Naruto Uzumaki, and his teacher, Kakashi Hatake.
Yoshihiro Togashi Explains His Favorite Naruto Fight Scene
In 2009, during the 10th anniversary of Naruto, Kishimoto and Togashi sat down for an interview, which was published in the Naruto 10th Anniversary Chronicle Book Mini. This interview was later translated by MrGenial11. During the interview, Togashi was asked about a specific aspect of Naruto that caught his attention.
Togashi stated:
When I read the scene where Kakashi fights Team 7 while holding his book, I couldn’t help but compliment Kishimoto-sensei, using that little detail to show the difference of experience between the characters made me realize that the author was really creative.

According to the mangaka, Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto featured a scene in the story where Kakashi first met Team 7 and gave them the task of taking the bells off him. While the team tried to take those bells, he was reading a book that made fans understand how much stronger he was than his team. Togashi was really impressed by Kishimoto’s creative detailing. So much so that he recognized his talents and even complimented the mangaka.
Yoshihiro Togashi Was Impressed By Masashi Kishimoto’s Drawing Skills
While talking about the aspects of the Naruto manga that impressed him, Yoshihiro Togashi also explained how the drawing skills of Kishimoto amazed him. Kishimoto’s way of drawing the hands of his characters and the way they hold things was truly creative, and it made Togashi realize that Kishimoto was indeed one of the best manga creators of all time.

Togashi stated:
Also Kishimoto has some really impressive drawing skills, I heard that in order to understand or evaluate the skills of an artist, you need to judge the way they draw hands, and the way his characters hold things in hand is impressive.
Kishimoto’s manga had some aspects that separated it from the basic Shonen tropes, and it is one of the reasons why Togashi appreciated the mangaka so much.
While Togashi himself has served as an inspiration to many other manga creators, his being impressed by Kishimoto and his manga is a big compliment in itself.
You can watch Naruto and Hunter x Hunter on Hulu.
