Eric Kripke’s Amazon Prime show The Boys season 4 is gradually approaching its end on July 18. The Boys’ season 4 episode 7 featured an NSFW scene between Jack Quaid and Erin Moriarty, wherein they both shared an intimate moment. But surprisingly, the twist came in when fans realized that it wasn’t Starlight, but instead the shapeshifter hired by Sister Sage. This prompted fans to call out the show and its writers for s*xually assaulting Hughie Campbell for the second time in a row.
Fans are Left Traumatized by Hughie Campbell’s Fate in The Boys
With each passing episode of The Boys, the show is getting more and more gruesome and difficult to watch. With all the abuse, assault, and murders, the Amazon Prime show is gradually becoming a gore fest for audiences. And it seems Jack Quaid’s Hughie Campbell is the one having the worst time of all, given the incidents he went through in the past couple of episodes.
The Boys season 4 simply crossed the line, proving that shock value is their highest priority, which led the writers to drag a few characters through some of the most devastating experiences a human can suffer. Jack Quaid‘s character appeared to be the one who suffered the most given that he initially witnessed the death of his father in season 4, which took a toll on his emotional state.

However, after he overcame his dad’s demise, Hughie realized why people say – never meet your heroes, in S4E6, after he decided to infiltrate Tek Knight as Webweaver. In that episode, Jack Quaid’s character found himself chained up in his childhood hero’s BDSM dungeon only to get assaulted and threatened, right after the loss of his dad.
Thereafter, as The Boys came up with Jack Quaid’s NSFW scene with Starlight’s shapeshifter in S4E7, fans simply lost their minds over the show’s hypocritical tone, wherein Hughie’s repeated assaults and emotional abuse were getting played for laughs. Therefore, fans quickly took to social media to express their concerns over the show and began rallying behind Quaid.
The Boys Crossed Limits with Jack Quaid and Erin Moriarty’s NSFW Scene
Certainly, after the traumatizing fate of Jack Quaid’s Hughie Campbell throughout The Boys season 4, fans noted how the show walked past every limit and decided to turn Hughie’s s*xual assaults into a running joke. Things went out of control after The Boys featured a s*x scene between Quaid’s character and Erin Moriarty‘s Starlight.
According to the show’s continuity, Susan Heyward’s Sister Sage had hired a shapeshifter to assassinate Robert Singer and clear the way for Victoria Neuman to become president. However, things become serious in the final moments of episode 7, when Starlight is taken hostage and swapped out by this new shapeshifter, who then appears at Hughie’s apartment to have s*x and later steal information that would incriminate Victoria Neuman.
While the passionate NSFW scene between the two leads, where Erin Moriarty’s bare back was visible onscreen, was supposed to be a romantic thing, it turned out truly traumatizing for fans, especially since they have been aware of the Starlight’s real identity, unlike Hughie. Therefore, fans immediately took to X to express their deep disgust over the sequence, followed by the previous incidents that nearly wrecked Jack Quaid’s character.
The Boys is available on Prime Video.
