One of the biggest curiosities people seem to have is if and how the franchise will retcon some parts of its lore, and the Reddit community has gathered to figure it out.

Prequels are always an exciting affair with any franchise, especially when they cover major, cataclysmic-type events that you’ve only heard about and seen the aftereffects of. Creating a prequel comes with its fair share of challenges though, with one of the most prominent ones being working around the lore.

Possible Retcons in E-Day?

As one Redditor brings up, there are quite a few enemies in the franchise that Marcus Fenix, the primary protagonist of Gears of War, had only encountered way after E-Day.

Some examples include Berserkers and Theron Guards Marcus only discovered in Gears 1 and Kantus in Gears 2. Some enemies, like the Ragers and Boomer Variants, have some wiggle room and could have been seen in E-Day.

There’s also some debate to be had on whether Marcus knew about RAAM from before Gears 2, but there’s a possibility he did. OP ends the post saying that The Coalition could retcon all of this and make it so that Marcus could see these enemies for the first time in Gears of War: E-Day.

The Locusts Aren’t the Only Things That Might Be Retconned

Aside from enemy types, there’s an iconic part of the franchise that people are curious to see how The Coalition deals with. Of course, we’re talking about the Mark 2 Lancer Assault Rifle, which is a weapon that’s become synonymous with the franchise. It would be weird to have a game without it.

Sadly, according to its creation history, it wouldn’t exist in Gears of War: E-Day, just like another heavily debated weapon—the Breechshot.

While some felt retconning it would be the best idea, others weren’t completely for it. The origins of the weapon have been fully explored in the comics and books, so it’s pretty much cemented in stone.

A few users suggested that, instead of bringing back Therons who Marcus never knew of back in E-Day‘s timeline, they could add the Hunters as chronologically. After all, they were the ones using Torque Bows at the time.

There’s a lot of different ways these elements can go, and more details to be aware of. It’ll be interesting to see what The Coalition can come up with.
