The Hunger Games franchise is iconic in more ways than one. Upon the first film’s release in 2012, it started a wave of young-adult fantasy in mainstream media, causing other films and works to be rapidly put out to keep up with audience demand. It only went up from there, with the second film being iconic in every way. Since The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the franchise has taken somewhat of a dip, but a recent announcement has caused more anticipation for what it will bring.

After the release of The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, it was announced that both Suzanne Collins and Francis Lawrence would be working on a book and a movie called Sunrise on the Reaping. Set in the past, the moment fans heard that the book and movie would follow the story of young Haymitch and how he won his games, they have been waiting for more updates.

While fans do not know what story the book and movie will follow, they have been looking for other ways to contribute to the production. One of the best ways is through fan casting, and audiences think that they have found the perfect person for the role.

Tom Glynn-Carney Volunteers as Tribute

While several actors are in the running for the fancast of young Haymitch, there is one who has been in the lead. It would seem that fans have really been favoring House of the Dragon actor, Tom Glynn-Carney, for the role. Playing the role of Aegon Targaryen in the show, he is known for wearing a white-haired wig and playing quite a frustrating character. However, in real life, the actor has blonde hair similar to Woody Harrelson‘s in the films.

Interestingly enough, the actor actually commented on the fancast, and his thoughts on the matter are cause for hope among fans. During an interview with Vestal Magazine, he talked about the buzz, revealing that he was quite surprised and flattered that fans thought of him when trying to cast the role themselves.

I’m incredibly flattered that people would like to see me on screen again. If all goes well, I’ll fight for my life in the Hunger Games!

He also mentioned that he was completely interested in taking up the role. Giving some hope to fans’ wishes, he mentioned that if things went well, he could very well be a part of the games and tell Haymitch’s story in the next Hunger Games film.

The Hunger Games Fans Could Not Agree More

Hearing Tom Glynn-Carney’s thoughts on the matter only seems to have added to the fans’ excitement. While many did not expect much to come out of their fancast, as the actors that the fans choose are rarely ever given the roles, the fact that Glynn-Carney is actually interested makes their dream a little more achievable.

Others who had not heard of the fancast seemed to simply be amazed at how similar the actor looks to Woody Harrelson. Indeed, the similarity between the two actors is uncanny. While the character that Glynn-Carney played in House of the Dragon was quite frustrating, there is no denying that his performance in the role was impeccable.

Since Haymitch exudes somewhat similar habits and traits to Aegon (at least externally), Glynn-Carney might be the perfect person for the role, outside of his resemblance to the character.
