Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is more than 25 years old, yet there seems to be no stopping for him. He has maintained his top spot even with all the popular modern anime. Considered as one of the Big Three of anime, One Piece follows the story of Monkey D. Luffy who wants to become the King of the Pirates. After so many years, it is still the apt description of his magnum opus.

Even though One Piece is one of the most popular anime on the planet, there always seem to be criticisms lurking around it. One of the biggest criticisms is that the fans believe Oda sensei follows the same template in all of the arcs. But with the Egghead arc, it might change soon, as it holds a twist in comparison to his former templates.

Egghead Island Arc Is The Reversed Form Of Another One Piece Arc

The Egghead Island arc saw the Strawhat Pirates encounter Dr. Vegapunk. But they were soon confronted by the Marines, and Monkey D. Luffy took it upon himself to finish the Five Elders along with Kizaru. While Oda sensei has been criticized for his lack of variety with the arc templates, a fan theory suggests that Egghead might be his redemption arc with a twist added to it. The fan theory claims the current arc to be the exact reverse of the Sabaody Archipelago arc.

It mentioned that in Sabaody Trafalgar D. Water Law and Eustass Kid were introduced, while in Egghead, they were defeated. While Luffy’s crew was eradicated in Sabaody, Egghead saw Law and Kid’s crew getting eradicated. Previously, it was Kizaru who stopped Luffy, and now it is the latter who stopped the former. The captain of the Strawhat Pirates failed to protect his comrades in Sabaody but protected them in Egghead.

Ivankov called Kuma’s palms the ‘Hand of Liberation.’ The Hands of Liberation saved the Strawhats in Sabaody, while the Warrior of Liberation, Sun God Nika, will save Bartholomew Kuma and Jewelry Bonney in Egghead. The list goes on with several more reversed situations. It is amazing to see how Eiichiro Oda might have just reversed his former arc. It not only helped him answer the criticisms but also gave One Piece a new template.

The Strawhats Have A Massive Task Ahead Of Them

Monkey D. Luffy is currently busy taking on the Five Elders. While it is next to an impossible task, it might help him to unlock a new form. Another big task awaits the Strawhats after the Egghead Island arc. The next arc will be the Elbaf arc, which will have giants, and several mysteries might be revealed in that arc. But the biggest war that Eiichiro Oda promised might take place on Elbaf. With Luffy, Shanks, Blackbeard, and Akainu all entering the battlefield at once is what the One Piece fans longed for.

It will be interesting to see how the next arc shapes out, especially after Oda sensei’s twist with the current arc. While the entire thing remains a fan theory, the fans cannot help but fathom whether it might have been a master class by the mangaka to stop the criticisms. Almost every detail matches the opposite of Sabaody. Unfortunately, until he decides to reveal his secrets, it might always remain a fan theory.

One Piece is available on Crunchyroll.
