First announced during the 2023 PlayStation Showcase with a teaser, Concord marked a significant return to in-house first-person shooters for PlayStation, a genre that Sony has shied away from for years now.

Currently, the game is in the ongoing beta period. While it’s being appreciated by many, few feel it lacks some crucial FPS features. However, fans want one feature in the game that Riot Games didn’t even dare to bring with Valorant’s console release.

There’s no doubt that Valorant stands as the face of the hero-shooter genre on PC. However, the game’s PC exclusivity is finally set to end, as it will be released on current-gen consoles in late 2024. However, one of the most disappointing news was that the console port wouldn’t support controller gyro aiming.

This puzzled many gamers as PS5’s DualSense controller does support gyro functionality. However, Riot revealed that since Xbox controllers do not have the gyro functionality, the team opted to completely abandon it. Now, if Firewalk decides to bring this feature to Concord, it could be a game changer.

If you don’t know, gyro-aiming is one of the key features that sets PS5 apart from Xbox consoles. It allows players to aim in FPS titles by physically moving their controllers. This allows for precise control by complementing the regular stick aiming. It’s basically mouse-quality aiming but with your controller.

While it’s a great feature, many leading FPS titles still haven’t adopted it, and there could be a strong reason why Firewalk wouldn’t either.

Concord beta has proved that the developers want consistency across different platforms. Even though it’s a PS5-console exclusive, Concord will make its way to PC as well, and gyro aiming could lead to an unbalanced experience.

Firewalk Extended Concord Beta Period

In late June, Firewalk revealed that Concord‘s closed beta period will kick off on July 12 and end on July 14. Right before the closed beta began on PlayStation 5 and PC, the company also decided to allow PS+ subscribers to jump into the action, abandoning its pre-order requirement.

Even though the game’s closed beta was supposed to end on June 14, Firewalk confirmed on X/Twitter that it is extending the beta availability by an additional day.

Although Firewalk didn’t reveal the reason behind the beta’s extension, it’s clear that it’s struggling. The game peaked at just 1,124 players on Steam during the beta period.

So far, the title’s hype on PC isn’t that high, quite possibly due to the hero shooter’s lack of originality as well as Sony forcing the PSN login requirement. Even though the odds are stacked against it, the game can still find success if it experiments and takes those risks by bringing player-requested features.

Do you think Firewalk Studios should work on bringing more features? Let us know what you think about this hero shooter in the comments!
