Harrison Ford will be playing President for the second time in his career in the upcoming Marvel film Captain America: Brave New World. The actor will be playing Thaddeus Ross, who has graduated from being Secretary of State to being the Commander-in-Chief of the country in the MCU.
While he plays the President in the MCU, a former President of the USA seemed to shower compliments on Ford. Donald Trump, who was the 45th President of the USA reportedly loved Ford’s performance as the POTUS in Air Force One. However, Ford had a sarcastic response to the controversial businessman.
Donald Trump Praised Harrison Ford’s Air Force One President
Former President Donald Trump has been a controversial figure ever since he contested the elections in 2016. The businessman polarized citizens and has pulled in as many supporters as his critics. His win in the 2016 elections was a subject of popular debate at the time, with many in the nation not happy with the decision (via Pew Research).
However, an article in the New York Times elaborated on why a seemingly aggressive President like Trump was what the people wanted at the time and his anti-terrorism position helped gain him the victory. On the other hand, Trump expressed his admiration for Harrison Ford’s President James Marshall in Air Force One.
In an era where aggressive tactics were expected from their leaders in real life and not just in the movies, Trump spoke about standing up for the nation despite perceived threats. He said about Ford,
My favorite was Harrison Ford on the plane. I love Harrison Ford — and not just because he rents my properties. He stood up for America.
Trump reportedly also appreciated former President Ronald Regan, who was also a movie star, for his toughness and aggressive tactics during the Cold War.
Harrison Ford Had A Sarcastic Response To Donald Trump’s Praise For Air Force One
Harrison Ford has played the President of the United States twice in his career now and has long been vocal about his political leanings. He has also been vocally critical of Donald Trump’s position and has criticized many of his statements in the past.
Ford responded to Trump’s praise for Air Force One with a sarcastic comment. In an interview with Australia Channel 4 News, the actor was dismissive of Trump’s election bid. And when he was told about the former President’s compliments, he said,
Donald, it was a movie. It’s not like that in real life, but how would you know?
The Indiana Jones star had also called him a “son of a b*tch” once on Jimmy Kimmell Live! and criticized his disregard for climate change and scientific evidence that was prevalent in the current era of politics (via THR).
