Despite a rocky launch and a host of game design issues, The First Descendant continues to make waves in gaming’s F2P market. Taking a look at the Steam Charts, it becomes clear that Nexon is clearly doing something right by the game as well.
That, however, poses a problem, as it becomes difficult to ascertain just what aspect of the game clicks and doesn’t click with its player base. Well, wouldn’t you know it—one legend has been hard at work on that problem, now giving Nexon precisely the kind of feedback they need to ensure the game’s successful future.
One Player Has Spent 200 Hours Turning The First Descendant Inside Out
As the community continues to grow and spend more time with Nexon’s latest IP, more and more concrete things, from cheeky microtransactions and bad mechanics to all that the game is doing right, have been rapidly surfacing.
However, as if to speedrun the process of getting the game fixed, one user on Reddit recently revealed his complete critique of the game after spending more than 200 hours understanding every single aspect of it.
The First Descendant after >200h my thoughts

Considering The First Descendant‘s “good parts” and what Nexon can double down on, one of the more significant points of praise has been how, given its nature as a free-to-play title, the usual “grind” is actually fair and rewarding. The game gives players the chance to unlock many characters and guns simply by spending time with them.
Alongside this, the combat, gunplay, and movement also receive high marks. The moment-to-moment gameplay, which keeps things fresh and challenging, differs from games like Warframe, signaling that the studio isn’t simply chasing trends here.
Lastly, and perhaps the one that goes without saying, the variety of characters, each with their own utility and customization options on display, is simply unbelievable, all of it ensuring that players can easily build an approach that suits their personal preferences and keeps the gameplay engaging.
Good Parts Aside, What Bad and Ugly Things Does the Game Contain?

Considering that the game is missing a few very critical features beyond the more well-known issues, let’s also take a look at what the OP considers questionable and downright wrong with the game.
A few minor and “usual” issues surfaced related to progression, bad animations, battle pass problems, poor sound-mixing, stability issues, and a few specific issues related to certain characters’ toolkits and items.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Nexon game without some shady and aggressive micro-transactions. Still, one other major issue that was pointed out was that the core narrative is very generic, and the voice acting is rather bland, preventing players from feeling wholly immersed in the game.
All in all, though, it’s an excellent read for both the community and Nexon, which will undoubtedly give them an idea of what to keep from breaking with the game and what to work on.
