DC Comics will pull off one of its greatest initiatives with Joshua Williamson and Scott Snyder’s All-In. With a story focused on Darkseid and reimagined versions of the iconic characters, the fans are convinced that we will witness a kind of Snyderverse in the comics.

Numerous DC fans are still disappointed that Zack Snyder’s DCEU never reached its desired conclusion. The Snyderverse was planned as a darker superhero universe with Darkseid as the primary villain. While the Snyderverse failed, Scott Snyder’s plans for an Absolute Universe may give us something similar to what the Watchmen filmmaker intended.

What do we know about DC’s new Absolute Universe?

In a new announcement video posted on DC’s official YouTube channel, writers Joshua Williamson and Scott Snyder announced that they had been working for 2 years to create a new Absolute Universe line of comics. Unlike what they attempted to do with The New 52 publishing initiative, All-In will not replace or retcon the existing DC universe in any way. The Absolute Universe will co-exist.

According to Scott Snyder, the new All-In initiative will kick off in October 2024, after Mark Waid and Dan Mora’s hit crossover event, Absolute Power, ends. It is revealed that at the end of Absolute Power #4, “Darkseid starts to realize that something has always been missing.” The writers did not intend to spoil anything but hinted that at a point in AP‘s final issue, Darkseid will sense something that will set him directly in conflict against a new version of Justice League.

If Snyder’s words are true then this battle against Darkseid would leave the DC cosmology changed forever. As a result, we will get this new, much darker Absolute Universe, which is “founded on Darkseid energy.” The superheroes would be presented as underdogs and it will be anything but easy for them to shine brighter.

While the DC All-In #1 will be written by Joshua Williamson and Scott Snyder, one side will be drawn by Daniel Sampere with the other by Wes Craig. Looks like the makers also want to emphasize the demarcation of good and evil as half of the story will be told from Superman’s perspective with the other from Darkseid’s.

The new comic line will also present modern and darker retellings of the iconic characters with Scott Snyder set to return to DC after 4 years with Absolute Batman. The author who garnered critical acclaim for his New 52 Batman will work alongside artist Nick Dragotta.

Another Snyderverse in the making?

The fans were insanely excited when their demand for the Snyder Cut of Justice League was fulfilled by DC. The people were interested in Zack Snyder‘s idea to pitch our heroes against the dark and dreadful Darkseid. With edgy takes on the iconic characters and a mature storyline, it was supposed to establish the DCEU as a darker antithesis to its rival MCU.

Nonetheless, as it failed hard and James Gunn established himself as the new co-head of the DCU, we could never see the end of Snyderverse. Now, Scott Snyder’s plans for this new comic line have led many DC enthusiasts to realize we may have got a Snyderverse 2.0.

It will be interesting to see if All-In proves to be everything that Zack Snyder intended to make with his Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck-led universe.

One of the primary advantages of the Absolute Universe is that the new universe does not affect the existing DC universe in any way. Despite the AU having its continuity, it will have its ties with the existing universe. Snyder clearly stated that the All-In initiative is all about inviting new changes while embracing DC’s rich 86 years of history.

DC All In #1 will be available in October 2024 from DC Comics.
