Ever since Disney acquired Fox Studios in 2019, fans have been waiting for the X-Men to make their debut in the MCU. The legendary franchise changed the superhero genre for good in 2000 when Hugh Jackman made his debut as Wolverine in X-Men. While the end of the franchise fizzled out, fans were still excited for the characters to be in the MCU.

The first X-Men film in the MCU was set to be Ryan Reynolds’ threequel to Deadpool, which would also see the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Jackman had retired from the role in 2017 after the iconic Logan. It would be the first time Reynolds and Jackman would be sharing the screen as the popular characters.

Kevin Feige has been heaping praises about the upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine and even compared them to two of Marvel’s most profitable and highly-rated films. He said to io9,

If Avengers: Infinity War is a 9 and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ is a 10…Deadpool & Wolverine is an 8 in terms of how impactful it will be on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame were the climactic films of the ‘Infinity Saga’ and saw the departure and ending character arcs of multiple OG superheroes such as Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Widow, among others.

One of the highlights of the upcoming MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine, apart from the team-up between the two icons, is that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will finally be wearing the classic yellow and blue suit from the comics. In the seventeen years that the actor had played the role, he had never worn the suit.

According to executive producer Wendy Jacobson, many of the crew members cried when they saw Jackman in the suit for the first time during camera tests. She told HeyUGuys,

It was one of the craziest things. It was the camera test. It was before we started shooting. To see both of those guys, first of all, in costume together was just mind-blowing, but Hugh walking out in the yellow and blue, I mean, there were grown men, like, sobbing on set. So we knew it was a special, very special thing.

Kevin Feige, who was an executive producer on the original X-Men films, reportedly instructed Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds to bring the yellow suit if Jackman was returning.
