Antony Starr has cemented himself among the ranks of characters like Darth Vader and Hannibal Lecter with his performance as Homelander in The Boys. The actor has been praised for the way in which he can play Homelander to be childlike and menacing at the same time, but it seems that his acting skills are matched by his astute observations, which tend to be in line with what Homelander might or might not have said.

Antony Starr revealed that there was a lot that he enjoyed about Batman, and was excited to see what James Gunn is going to do with the character in the DCU. However, the way in which the actor chose to describe the character has some convinced that Antony Starr might be the perfect pick for a Batman villain.

I think I liked Batman, then I got older… He’s not a superhero. He’s actually a guy running around in a bat outfit with some fancy toys & a chip on his shoulder about money… but it’s gonna be really exciting to see what happens with DC with James Gunn

By breaking him down to such basic cynical concepts, Starr has proven that the actor is worthy of playing some of Batman’s more psychologically tormenting villains, such as Hush, who made it his personal mission to make Bruce Wayne’s and his friends’ lives hell, or Doctor Hugo Strange, who successfully deduced Bruce Wayne is Batman.

Should either of these roles come Starr’s way, it is this understanding of the character that is going to aid the actor in taking up the role of Batman’s villains. By looking at the Caped Crusader from an angle that defines him as a mentally disturbed human being unable to cope with his trauma in a healthy manner, Antony Starr might just be in line with the thinking of a slew of Batman’s rogues gallery.

Fans call this interpretation of Batman on brand for Antony Starr

It is often that when an actor plays a character well for a long time, it becomes difficult to distinguish the character from the artist. Such seems to be the case with Homelander and Antony Starr, not in the sense of their personalities, but in the way the actor has described Batman. And it seems, fans agree with this assessment of the actor, taking to X to talk about how in character that analysis would be for Homelander.

A slew of fans are also satisfied with this take of Starr’s on the character, eager to cast him in the role of one of Batman’s rogue’s gallery members.

With James Gunn yet to make any progress in the DCU when it comes to Batman, the door is wide open for possibilities in the franchise. Fans have already begun speculation about who could essay which role in the DCU, especially when it comes to the Batman side of things, and Starr seems to have entered the competition to essay a villainous role opposite the Bat of Gotham.
