Gege Akutami has always been one to impress when it comes to Jujutsu Kaisen. The characters all have their unique outlook and understanding, with many of them feeling realistic in the series of their beliefs. Although Akutami’s writing has its own ups and downs, some characters have more depth than others.
Some characters like Gojo, Geto, and Megumi have been given layers upon layers that help them grow. However, there are others who require more but are given less. Nobody is perfect and Akutami is no exception to it. There has often been confusion about certain factors of the series that weren’t explained properly, including Cursed Techniques. One character who definitely needed more of a spotlight was Toji Fushiguro.
Toji Fushiguro’s Misconceptions
Toji Fushiguro was the first character to ever provide a challenge to Gojo Satoru. He was able to equal and surpass him even despite being devoid of Cursed Energy. He was able to counter Gojo’s Infinity like it was nothing and only Hollow Purple was able to defeat him once and for all. Both he and Maki had the advantage of the Heavenly Principles, making them basically invisible to forces like Mahoraga and other tools and tricks that rely so heavily on Cursed Energy in both the opponents.
While many would assume that his Heavenly Principles were the reason why he was able to deflect Infinity, that wasn’t necessarily the cause. The Inverted Spear of Heaven, a tool he often relied on, was the reason why he was able to tear away Infinity’s force. The confusion is spread through and through with many Jujutsu Kaisen fans pulling their hair out in frustration.
A misconception arose about his power, and many wondered how a man who lacked any Cursed Technique was able to rip through Gojo’s defense mechanisms with brute force. Many might even assume that Gege Akutami wasn’t the best at explaining it.
Gege Akutami Needed to Give Toji More Room in Jujutsu Kaisen
Fans are finding themselves confused about just how much Toji Fushiguro needed to be in the manga so that they could better understand him as a character. Gege Akutami has been very clear when it comes to a lot of the misconceptions spread. Sometimes even downright stating the facts and other times killing off and removing characters once their role is complete.
Toji too came when he was needed and left when he wasn’t. Jujutsu Kaisen isn’t a story that might give fans satisfaction in terms of conclusive storylines. If Megumi and Toji were to reconcile, all the tragedy and hardships they went through would impact less. Closure comes in many stories but that wasn’t the case for the father and son.

Despite it all, there was much about the character that could have been explored, so much so that many fans have asked for a prequel spinoff just for him. Were he given more room to be explored, perhaps his character would have been better understood by the fans.
Jujutsu Kaisen is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
