In recent times, layoffs have unfortunately become a common occurrence in the video games industry. Mortal Kombat‘s NetherRealm Studios is not an exception as it recently released quite a few employees, including its mobile division team in an attempt to restructure.
In a surprising turn of events, Injustice 2 is standing firm with its community and will continue to get support from the studio. However, this was not the case for Mortal Kombat: Onslaught as it announced that the game would be shut down in September.
Injustice 2 Stands Strong Amidst Mortal Kombat Onslaught’s Closure
The Mortal Kombat series has been the defining factor of the NetherRealm Studios for decades due to its engaging combat and iconic characters. In contrast, Injustice 2 has explored a different narrative, as it follows the DC Comics superheroes and villains packed in intense conflicting yet immersive world.
The game has been a success ever since its launch and not only provides polished gameplay mechanics but also explores deep narrative arcs that have resonated with fans of both comics and gaming alike. Following the news of impending layoffs in the studio, many fans were worried that Injustice 2 would not get the approval and would be shut down.
Surprisingly, that was not the case as the studio recognized the game’s and community’s dedication. However, the studio’s other mobile game, Onslaught didn’t make the cut and will say its farewell to the community in September. Despite the different circumstances, both the games have come out and said thanks to the community for continuously supporting the games.
Injustice 2 thanked its player base and reassured them that the game would continue to be in operation and get full support from the studio, making it even better.
NetherRealm Studios would like to assure all players and fans of our ongoing commitment to Injustice 2 mobile. The game will continue operations and have full support.

Some players want the game to be included in the main series as a minigame.
Petition for transfer MK Onslaught to MK1 as a new game mode. This game is so much better than Invasions Mode.

While the community is still in shock after hearing the layoff news, with the recent trend in the industry they knew it was bound to happen sooner or later. They are happy that one mobile game survived.
