Hideo Kojima is known for being one of the most reputed names in the video game industry. The industry veteran is known for his unique take on video game series like Metal Gear Solid while at Konami.
Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake was one of the most critically acclaimed games in the series. Talking to his Twitter account, Kojima-san just made a shocking revelation about the game’s release.
Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake Was ‘Nearly Finished’ in 1989
Anyone familiar with Hideo Kojima’s works knows that the industry veteran is a master at thinking out of the box. His creativity was displayed in Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake, a breakthrough title, by all means. The game was released in 1990 for the Sony MSX2 Home Computer.
Through his Twitter account, though, Hideo Kojima revealed that the game was delayed due to an emergency faced by the team developing SD Snatcher, another 8-bit game by Konami for the Sony MSX2. Kojima-san revealed that not just the team working on Metal Gear 2 but everyone else at Konami also joined forces to revise SD Snatcher:
It has been 34 years since "METAL GEAR 2 SOLID SNAKE.” “MG2" was actually nearly finished in 1989, but there was a bit of an emergency situation with "SD SNATCHER" that was done by a different team, and we had to help them for a few months. One of the key takeaways from the tweet was that Solid Snake‘s dev time was not the only area affected by the emergency with SD Snatcher. The former’s release interval was also adjusted not to coincide and possibly cannibalize the latter.
Reviving Games Like Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake Might Be a Good Idea
Metal Gear 2 is regarded as one of the most acclaimed titles released in the early 1990s. It is even regarded as one of the best 8-bit titles ever released.
Unfortunately, supported platforms for the game only consist of mobile devices and the age-old Sony MSX2. Not to mention, the game was only released in Japan. The only way to access the game globally was through the Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence release, which had a playable version of both classic Metal Gear games.
With Delta: Snake Eater confirmed at the 2024 Xbox Game Showcase, Konami seems focused on giving new-age gamers the experience they missed previously. This also opens up possibilities for the company, including a playable version with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater release.
It would only be logical for players to be able to experience the original Metal Gear games. Would you like to play the games that gave birth to one of the most iconic tactical espionage ever to release? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
