HBO’s House of the Dragon is already planting the seeds for another Game of Thrones spinoff show as evident in Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen’s actions in Episode 5. While it showed the possible consequences of the battle at Rook’s Rest, it also teased the introduction of another significant character from the lore.

In the Dragonstone library, the Targaryen queen peruses a book about Queen Visenya Targaryen. She was one of Aegon the Conqueror’s sisters-wives, alongside Rhaenys. More importantly, she was a warrior, the first to wield the Dark Sister, the Valyrian steel blade now owned by Daemon Targaryen, and the first dragonrider of Vhagar.
House Of The Dragon Is Already Teasing Aegon’s Conquest
House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 5 revealed more hints about the future of the show and its characters in small yet noteworthy details. Emma D’Arcy’s Queen Rhaenyra was not only just reading up the history and adventures of Queen Visenya but it also sets up for the upcoming spinoff series about Aegon’s Conquest.

It was clear from the beginning that the Targaryen royalty idolized Visenya. She is someone whom she wishes to emulate. Throughout the second season, the audience has probably noticed the amount of time she was told to stay put inside the castle and just let her men deal with the war.
Visenya never did this in her lifetime. She fought Aegon’s wars and wielded the Dark Sister, and she was also a fierce dragonrider who burned everyone who refused to bend their knees to Aegon. Alongside Aegon and Rhaenys, Visenya played a pivotal role in uniting Westeros.

Fans would remember in Season 1 that Rhaenyra lost her stillborn daughter whom she named Visenya in honor of her ancestor. It’s obvious from the start of the series that Rhaenyra is the Dragon Queen, and so was Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones.
For eight years, Clarke played the Mother of Dragons and it was the role that propelled her to stardom. The hint on Visenya’s story in House of the Dragon is a clear subtle nudge on her legacy, and her appearance in the upcoming spinoff series might be bigger than that of Daenerys and Rhaenyra.
Updates On Upcoming Aegon’s Conquest

Early this year, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that “HBO is partnering with Mattson Tomlin” for the upcoming Aegon’s Conquest series. He is known for his contribution to Matt Reeves’ The Batman and its upcoming sequel.
Details about the show remain scarce as Ryan Condal claimed via Entertainment Weekly that “people are picking my brain all the time. It’s very early days, but we shall see.”
Aegon’s Conquest is one of the highlights in George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, and it might be safe to say that its storyline is just as epic as, if not more than, the Dance of the Dragons.
House of the Dragon Season 2 is now streaming on HBO.
