Activision’s Call of Duty is a series that doesn’t need any kind of introduction. The series has been reigning supreme in the FPS landscape for the last two decades without a challenge. Whether you love it or hate it, there’s no denying that this franchise has felt amazing to play while maintaining its fast-paced, nonstop action that keeps luring us back year after year.
However, no title is created quality, and with a rotating ensemble of three developer teams to take their best shot at the franchise, things can get a bit wacky, throwing gamers for a loop now and again. As a result, some games have brought a friendly experience, while others have proven to be quite challenging.
This One Call of Duty Game Was Truly a Nightmare to Finish
Even if multiplayer is the most popular aspect of every Call of Duty game, single-player elements are still a great part of the deal. Over the years, players have battled in numerous settings, from World War II to space battles.
The franchise’s campaigns are usually reasonably easy when experienced with normal difficulty. Still, the series is also famous for its veteran setting, where a few shots can decimate the player. On Reddit, when players were asked which game pushed them to the edge, only one name was found: World at War.
What game really piles on the difficulty right at the end?

It’s hard to imagine a shooter harder than World at War. The game has everything Treyarch had developed earlier, times ten. The title’s AI was infamous for absolutely wreaking havoc at the later stages of the game and proved to be quite a nuisance.

In this title, every map is overflowing with enemy troops, and grenades are outright being spammed at players from every angle. There’s constant enemy fire, which makes it impossible for any player not to be shot as they move.
That’s not all; the game had some of the hardest stages in the entire franchise, like “Heart of the Reich,” where gamers are tasked with reaching Reichstag by blasting away every enemy defense. The title’s epic final mission is also quite challenging.
This is truly the ultimate Call of Duty experience in terms of difficulty, which is going to make you google things such as “how to complete World War on Veteran difficulty”! Considering that modern titles tend to be so much easier, this experience will never be topped.
Call of Duty World At War Also Features an Incredible Zombies Mode

When the credits rolled on the World at War campaign, many players were caught off guard seeing shuffling bodies sprinting towards the screen. The screen goes completely dark, with a game card, “Nazi Zombies,” popping on the screen.
Alongside a tough campaign, the game also featured a phenomenal Zombies mode. It was loved by critics and fans alike as it introduced a thrilling co-op experience that was perfect on the try and influenced the later games as well.
Let’s hope Activision can bring a similar experience to the upcoming Black Ops 6 in terms of difficulty and game modes. If you’re a Call of Duty veteran, you’ll love the next Black Ops game, as it’s all set to feature the classic turn-based zombie mode!
