Sometimes, in the ebb & flow of epic sagas, we find ourselves rooting for an underdog whose light shines brightest, leaving us yearning for a victorious comeback. And what better example could there be than the gritty, super-powered rollercoaster ride of The Boys’ fourth season?
As the penultimate season wraps its tentacles around our anticipation, one can’t help but wonder if the high stakes are truly as sky-scraping as they seem without a genuine threat. Starlight / Annie January, portrayed by Erin Moriarty, has been through the wringer—mocked and tested—yet her rising revolution in The Boys universe is nothing short of stellar.

With her powers amped up in season 4, she became a guiding beacon, blazing into new frontiers of might. Now, how about this for a twist of fate: could it be that Starlight is primed to take down Antony Starr’s formidable Homelander in a showstopping season 5 duel? A recent theory hints at her blossoming into the paramount force among the supes—so, Starlight may indeed be the one destined to be a threat to Homelander.
The Boys 5 Theory: Erin Moriarty Will Stand Strong Against Homelander
In season four of The Boys, Starlight, played by the talented Erin Moriarty, loses control of her abilities. However, in the climax, the powers did unexpectedly return to her, leaving viewers wondering why.
During the entire outing with The Boys, she encounters a similar struggle. She is compelled to confront her past transgressions, which intensifies the struggle against Homelander. Starlight finds this particularly challenging because certain aspects of her history are directly linked to Supes’ negligence and corruption. Although she is fighting those things, she is also partially to blame for them.
Starlight tries to hide that aspect of herself because she has conflicting feelings about her past. This is most likely the reason why Starlight’s powers do not work at first. Fortunately, they make a comeback in the finale of season 4; it looks like she will need them for season 5 of The Boys.

According to a theory posted on Instagram, Starlight is expected to become the strongest supe in The Boys Universe, finally shedding the disrespect and underestimation she has faced so far. Despite the endless taunts and mockery she has endured, she has every reason to want to defeat Homelander (Antony Starr). The theory held that the writers were deliberately weakening her character in the show so that she could finally give it her all in the fifth season.
Based on this theory:
We got a small taste of her power buff in the season 4 finale. So Starlight has super strength, Bullet immunity control over light and electricity, and now flight. She might even be faster than Homelander now. Thus, she is finally going to beat the useless allegations in season 5.
The Boys has been enchanting audiences since its premiere in 2019, with each season delving deeper into the dark & twisted world of super-powered individuals.

Among the iconic moments discussed, the wild and infamous Herogasm episode (Season 3) was a hot topic. Erin Moriarty led the brave foray into the conversation, revealing the intricacies of filming a scene with Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso). With dedication to authenticity, the special effects team conjured up quite the spectacle, ensuring the actors had just the right “effect” to respond to. To quote Moriarty:
The dude that works on our special effects, the head of special effects of The Boys, was waving like, d*ck on a stick in front of our face. We needed it for the full effect.
You can only imagine how difficult it must have been for Moriarty and Alonso to film the entire scene when the former used the term “d*ck on a stick”.
With the upcoming fifth season expected to premiere in 2026, fans are eagerly foreseeing the epic showdown between Starlight and Homelander. Will she finally emerge victorious and put an end to his reign of terror?
The Boys is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
