There is no doubt to the fact that Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise are two of Hollywood’s most successful actors thanks to the work they have done in the industry for the past decades. And while it would be absolutely groundbreaking to have the two star alongside each other in a film, their ongoing feud will never let that happen.
It all started when Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise starred in Interview with the Vampire and the former made some controversial comments about the latter. Since 1994, they have not come together to work again and it looks like their feud just got a little more interesting with Brad Pitt flying to the United Kingdom to shoot his upcoming film F1. Apparently, Tom Cruise is not a big fan of this as he reportedly gets very territorial about the country.
Tom Cruise-Brad Pitt Feud Intensifies?
After filming Interview with the Vampire, Brad Pitt got candid about his time working with his co-star, Tom Cruise and stated that despite their popularity status, the two of them couldn’t be more poles apart.
Talking to Premiere Magazine, Pitt stated, “You gotta understand, Tom and I are… we walk in different directions. He’s North Pole. I’m South.” He went on to add that while things didn’t get “nasty,” there was always “underlying competition” between the two. Since then, we haven’t seen Pitt and Cruise reunite for a film.
Coming back to the present, it looks like their feud just got a new chapter as Pitt gets busy in shooting F1. According to Closer Magazine’s source,
There’s a reason they haven’t worked together in 30 years. They clashed so badly when they shot Interview with the Vampire, neither of them has ever been able to move past it. They play it down publicly, but it’s no secret they can’t stand each other.
As per the source, the Top Gun: Maverick actor is quite territorial about the United Kingdom, a country that is close to his heart. Apparently, Pitt is the last person he wants to pay a visit to “his personal kingdom.” Cruise is also back in the good books of David and Victoria Beckham after a reported fallout between them.
The insider stated,
Tom feels very territorial about the UK so that’s part of it – he’s the last person he wants in what he now sees as his personal kingdom. Tom takes a huge amount of pride in the fact that he’s totally immersed in British high society, he’s rubbing shoulders with royalty and back in the good books with the Beckhams.
Pitt being in the United Kingdom is one reason why Cruise is so bothered, at least according to the insider. However, there is reportedly another reason why the actor is tossing and turning in his sleep – Pitt’s collaboration with the Top Gun: Maverick trio.
Brad Pitt’s Collaboration with the Maverick Crew
For Cruise, London is his home and he reportedly believes that people who come in for vacations or for work are just not on the same wavelength as him. On top of all that, the source states that the actor is not happy about the fact that Pitt is working with Joseph Kosinski, the director of Top Gun: Maverick
As far as he’s concerned, London is his home, so people like Brad, who just want to fly in and out to make a movie or take a quick vacation once in a while, are just not on his same wavelength. But it also really sticks in his craw that Brad’s now working with the same director that Tom hired.
Not only is Pitt working with Kosinski, but his upcoming film is also written by Ehren Kruger and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, both of whom were on Maverick’s team.
According to the insider, Cruise believes that Pitt is purposely trying to show him up after there has been buzz surrounding F1 and how the film could potentially be on Maverick’s level.
There’s been all sorts of buzz about how Brad’s going to follow the success that Tom had with Top Gun and bring in a billion dollars when this movie finally hit theatres, and that has not gone over well with Tom. He feels like Brad’s purposely stepping on his toes and trying to show him up.
As for when the feud might add, the source told the magazine that Pitt and Cruise are “really like oil and water” and that while they have been at odds for thirty years, it looks like they’ll remain at odds for another thirty. Fans’ dream of seeing the two stars in a film might never turn into reality.
F1 will be released in theatres on June 24, 2025. You can stream Top Gun: Maverick on Paramount+.
