The Twisters film has stirred quite a lot of buzz since its release. With an impressive cast full of talented people like Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, David Corenswet, and Kiernan Shipka, it is not surprising that the film is getting a lot of attention. Although not all of its praise comes from its cast. The director, Lee Isaac Chung’s efforts have made the film immensely critically acclaimed as well.

However, no film is without its faults, and there was one scene towards the end of the movie that ended up feeling more awkward than intentionally genius. It would seem that fans have Steve Spielberg to blame for this decision.

A Twisted Piece of Advice

The chemistry between Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones in Twisters was quite impressive. The pair had a certain rhythm going that couldn’t even be found in Powell’s previous work, Anyone But You. They seemed to have convinced the audiences well enough that they were actually interested in each other, as when the film ended, the fans were confused as to why the two characters did not kiss.

The setup was there, and it was obvious that they would get together in the future. Despite this, they never locked lips throughout the run of the movie. During an interview with Collider, Edgar-Jones revealed the reasoning for the decision, and it would seem that Lee Isaac Chung was not the mind behind it.

I think it’s a Spielberg note, wasn’t it? I think it stops the film feeling too clichéd, actually,

The actress revealed that the idea of the protagonists not kissing was introduced to the story by Steven Spielberg. He ended up giving the note to the director of the film, as he believed that the execution would feel far too intentional, and the advice ended up sticking with Lee Chung.

While the cast agrees with both the directors’ judgments, fans seem to be of different thinking.

Twisters Could Have Better Off Without Steven Spielberg’s Advice

Steven Spielberg is as successful as a director can get in Hollywood. He has the fame, the money, the acclaim, and the respect. He has been nominated for Oscars almost as many times as he has made films. With all his achievements, his words hold a lot of value in the film industry. This is why, when he gives you a piece of advice for your film, you listen and put it into your film, even if you don’t believe it to be right for it.

While Lee Isaac Chung got to execute the note that he was given by Spielberg, fans were not impressed when the truth of the scene came out. Many of them pointed out how the scene added nothing to the film and only left the audience and the characters feeling awkward. They mentioned that it was just a kiss, and no one would have read so much into it.

They were also surprised that a director as successful and talented as Spielberg would come up with such poor advice. It is safe to say that this is one of the rare instances where Spielberg was wrong about a directional choice.
