Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is the much-awaited expansion to a game that is being enjoyed by millions of players worldwide. The Lands Between and the Land of Shadow are exciting realms to explore and find one’s purpose in.
Traversing through these beautiful and daunting landscapes is no easy task, and the journey becomes much simpler thanks to the Tarnished’s worthy companion, Torrent. However, according to many players, the formidable spectral steed hasn’t received much attention from the developers.
Elden Ring Players Wish the Best for Torrent
When user Fancy_Leader6278 on Reddit asked the community about their opinions on what’s missing in the expansion, comments varied from the lack of many gameplay mechanics to lore and world-building elements.
However, a comment by player Working_Lock_3870 stood out. They mentioned how Torrent, the protagonist’s worthy companion, barely received any updates in the expansion.

Armor sets for the spectral steed would be an ideal feature, as it would make him more powerful in battle and maybe even add an aesthetic touch to his otherwise dull attire.
If Elden Ring can have so many armor variants for the player, why should the protagonist’s spectral steed be kept out of that equation?
At present, the spectral steed can be quite weak in battle and often cannot take more than little damage from tough bosses. As a result, players have to often fight on foot rather than rely on him in battle.
Torrent Will Always Be an Essential Part of the Experience
In my review of the game, I mentioned how Torrent is still an important part of the overall experience. Regardless of where you choose to travel, summoning him becomes an essential part of the process.
With the DLC, FromSoftware made sure that the new areas made exploration a bit more challenging. For instance, certain aspects of the expansion would require the spectral steed to carefully jump onto platforms and navigate tight spaces.
Even though this adds a lot to the experience of traversing through the Land of Shadow, it would be nice to find and earn different kinds of armor sets and upgrades for Torrent.
This way, not only would he look like an important character (which he is), but also help the Tarnished in all the battles/challenges that make the game so enjoyable. Furthermore, it would give players more incentive to work towards it.
