When it comes to House of the Dragon, fans can assume that George R.R. Martin has conflicting opinions on it. While the series has executed many things to perfection, there have been some changes that may not have been welcomed by the writer. This is not surprising, considering just how much thought he put into creating the series, only for some parts to be changed here and there.

Although, nobody is perfect and mistakes can be made when someone is creating something. Plotholes are formed, and fans cannot help but notice the continuity errors. The sixth episode of season two was just released, and it managed to deviate quite a lot from the original story.

However, fans do not think that Martin has a right to be upset because of his ‘lazy’ writing by the end of the book, A Dance with Dragons.

House of the Dragon Moves Away From the Books

In the recent episode of House of the Dragon, Smallfolk, there is a scene with Rhaena Targaryen, where she is walking and encounters an entire area of grass burned, with a few sheep in similar conditions. Soon afterward, she approaches Lady Jeyne Arryn and asks her about the dragon, only to be told that it is wild and simply hunted for sport.

While the story device certainly adds a layer of intrigue to what is going on in the Vale, fans could not help but notice that it deviated from the books in a big way. In the original story, dragons are not nomadic in any way. They do not wander and don’t even leave places until they have their rider.

George R.R. Martin, himself mentioned how they are unlikely to hunt or exist in a place like the Vale on their own. However, the show seems to have changed this trait of the creatures and allowed them to do as they please if they do not have a rider.

Geroge R.R. Martin Contradicted Himself

While many would assume that George R.R. Martin would be upset to learn of this disloyalty to the source material by House of the Dragon, Offsetmistress on X pointed out that he may not have a right to. It would seem that before the show could contradict this established fact in the series, the writer had already done it himself.

They accused Martin of being in a rush when he was writing the end of The Dance with Dragons and ended up contradicting what he had set up early in the story. They mentioned how the story ended with four dragons surviving and flying away which goes against their fundamental traits.

George contractics himself considering how lazy he ended the dance. Like 4 large dragons end up surviving and all of them “just flew away”… So george’s logic saying they don’t hunt in the vale is blasphemy & he needs to explain himself. Especially about Silverwing at the end.

With this, they mentioned that even if the series is changing this aspect drastically, it is for the better and would only add to the story and its dynamics, taking nothing away.
