Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine alongside Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool might be the biggest winning point of the movie. But having numerous cameos and finally being able to introduce the X-Men to the MCU canon is no less. And with Dafne Keen joining in, things are only looking to go up from here on out.

The MCU Could Introduce Two Wolverine’s With Deadpool & Wolverine

With Deadpool and Wolverine making there and MCU debut alongside quite to few other X-Men, the upcoming movie is also rumored to introduce a new crop of mutants who will take over from the older group. Many actors are said to be joining the franchise as newer and younger versions of the Foxverse characters we met before, and of course, Wolverine is one of them.

Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter fame is one of the top contenders to take over the role of Logan/Wolverine in the MCU. At least that was the fan consensus, given, until the announcement of Deadpool 3, everyone knew Hugh Jackman had left the superhero world behind after Logan (2017).

But now, with the latest Deadpool & Wolverine trailer giving us a glimpse of Dafne Keen’s Laura, sentiments have become a little confusing. While many still want Radcliffe to join the franchise, they are also not opposed to the idea of Keen’s Laura/X-23 taking over the mantle of Wolverine after her father.

But this could also give way to a multiversal storyline (given this is the Multiverse Saga), where both Radcliffe and Keen are Wolverine. Just in two different universes. While Laura can take over the mantle in the Foxverse timeline, the MCU canon could integrate Radcliffe as the clawed mutant. And wouldn’t that be the perfect solution to all this confusion?

Is The MCU Taking Inspiration From Its Rivals The DCU?

Before this multiversal storyline came about in the MCU, the DCU had already introduced a near-similar concept with their Elseworld stories. Joker and The Batman belong to the Elseworld instead of the old DCEU canon. And though the concept of a multiverse was not included in the old DCEU or the newly rebooted DCU under James Gunn and Peter Safran, the idea behind is pretty much the same.

Having two actors play the same character in two different storylines will easily be manageable in a multiversal concept. So bringing in Daniel Radcliffe as the new Wolverine, and retaining Keen’s Laura/X-23 to take on the role of Wolverine will not be difficult. Marvel and Kevin Feige can easily keep both sections of fans happy – the ones who want a new face, and the ones who want to keep the existing character intact.

Deadpool & Wolverine will hit theaters worldwide on 26 July, 2024.
