Epic Games’ Fortnite took over the world when it launched in 2017. Shortly after, Battle Royale launched and quickly became a genre-defining journey that, even to this day, refuses to die down in popularity.

However, despite its enjoyable mechanics and exciting collabs, a recent survey has revealed that a big part of the community doesn’t find the experience relaxing. Rather, they may just be forcing themselves to enjoy the game.

On the Epic Games Launcher recently, a quick poll was conducted: “Do you play this game to relax?”. If you’ve been playing the game for a while, you might be under the belief that most players play the game to enjoy and relax themselves.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Shocking results reveal that 41% of Fortnite‘s player base doesn’t play the game to relax. While we don’t know what’s the major reason behind this choice, it’s not too hard to make a guess.

The game’s community is quite vocal online about new changes and how seasons go, and sometimes the bitter truth comes out in the form of Reddit posts and Twitter surveys too.

For instance, not too long ago, user LALlTO asked the community about its general interest in the game and whether people still play due to genuine interest or simply because they spent too much time/money on the game before.

The comments range from people sympathizing with the user’s situation to those who can completely relate. After all, every player has their own reason for playing Fortnite.

Regardless of how the community feels about the game, Epic is known for making a game that’s ever-evolving in nature, and often the example of a product that truly live service in every way.

What Could Encourage Players to Play Fortnite?

Despite all the engaging content updates and major gameplay mechanics to look forward to, Fortnite’s constant need for players to keep playing may have something to do with staying away from the “fear of missing out”.

Every season, the game introduces new items and cosmetics that change gameplay for a while. Then, these are removed or revamped for the next season. At this time, if a player doesn’t earn a particular cosmetic, they may never get to do so again.

These sly marketing tactics keep players “invested” in the game, even though they might not necessarily enjoy it.

Grinding quests and leveling up is usually only fun when the game is challenging in a good way. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case.

Despite the criticism, Fortnite is widely successful and has more than one million active players in the game at the time of writing. Are you part of the player base? What are your thoughts on the survey? Let us know in the comments below.
