FromSoftware’s Elden Ring can often be summed up as an experience that is a culmination of the studio’s greatest strengths. From a variety of weapon types to daunting foes, there’s a lot to explore in The Lands Between.

Shadow of the Erdtree has expanded this philosophy into an enjoyable journey that has been cherished by millions. However, certain players want a lot more than what exists, and a mechanic from Dark Souls comes to mind.

A Free-For-All Deathmatch Would Be Devilish to Have in Elden Ring

Recently, user Fancy_Leader6278 made a rather interesting post on Reddit regarding the community’s feedback on Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. The player asked fans what’s something that’s missing from the game and should be added by FromSoftware.

Between lore-based suggestions to a demand for exciting gameplay mechanics, players haven’t held back when it comes to criticism and demand for better gameplay. Out of these, a reference to Dark Souls stands out.

Player AdmitThatYouPrune brings back a nostalgic (yet terrifying) memory to the picture. If you’ve played the first Dark Souls game, you may remember a place called Darkroot Garden.

While this place was just like other spaces in the game that offered PvE scenarios, it became infamous for hosting a common space for players looking to fight against others. Sometimes, this would be planned. Other times, out of pure chaos.

Thirteen years later, players are still remembering a mechanic that FromSoftware seems to have gotten over. But, as the community knows, fans can have a strong memory, and this time, it comes back in the form of feedback for Elden Ring instead.

Elden Ring’s PvP Isn’t the Best, but Can Be

There are certain locations in the game called Colosseums that, as the name suggests, act as common places for players to fight against one another. This is also possible in other spaces in the game where players decide to invade each other’s worlds.

However, a deathmatch-esque scenario is a rare one and doesn’t truly hold up in the game’s current state. A reason for this is that FromSoftware never truly intended the game to be a largely PvP-based experience. Rather, it’s a single-player journey that manages to capture the magic of a big RPG title.

In the meantime, there’s no true evidence supporting any decisions FromSoftware might make regarding multiplayer scenarios. Unless you’re someone who’s eager to install mods that make multiplayer feel better in the game.

Given how many playstyles the game can support, it will be fascinating to see how players choose to battle one another when there are few rules and more violence that ensues. Maybe this will be larger than any boss fight players have experienced in the game before.

What are your thoughts on such mechanics? Do you think Elden Ring can benefit from something like this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
