Developer Saber Interactive’s upcoming Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 is all set to evolve the trail blazed by Captain Titus and his fellow company members all the way back in the 2011 title.
For the franchise’s second outing, the game will follow the next leg of the gritty tale of the Emperor’s chosen ones of the Ultramarine wing, as well as their quest to destroy the swarms of Tyranids that have emerged and rampaged across the Imperium. Unfortunately, one of the franchise’s most beloved characters won’t be joining us again in this upcoming adventure!
Lieutenant Maria Won’t Be Returning in Space Marine 2
There’s no doubt that the Warhammer franchise has given birth to some of the most beloved and iconic characters! We’ll be witnessing the return of many of them in the upcoming Space Marine 2 game, but it seems like Lieutenant Maria won’t be present.
In the original Space Marine game, Lt Maria plays a crucial role in helping Captain Titus and his team throughout their adventures on the Forge World Graria. She’s a member of the Imperial Guard and helped coordinate the defense against the deadly Ork invasion and the subsequent Chaos incursion.
While we’ve witnessed many characters in the series facing horrendous fates, Mira’s ultimate fate isn’t shown in the game. However, many in the community believe that she was instantly purged after Titus boarded a shuttle in the game’s final moments after he was taken into custody by the Inquisition.
Also, let’s not forget that the upcoming game is set around 100 years after the events of the original game. Even though the Cadian is a brave soldier, she’s a human after all. There’s a high chance that scumbled to old age or got killed by an Ork or Elder Blade.
Although it’s sad to see that such an iconic character won’t be making its return in the Space Marine sequel, the developers are probably going to find ways to pay tribute to her and not let her efforts die in vain!
When is Space Marine 2 Coming Out?
Warhammer games have managed to gain a cult-like following and have been massive hits with both fans of the franchise and newbies. The upcoming Space Marine sequel will follow up the iteration of this third-person escape, further adding a new story, modes, and much more.
Space Marine 2 is all set to release on September 9th, 2024. However, if you’re itching to get your hands on the game earlier, you can purchase the special pre-order editions! There’s still no official confirmation of whether we’ll see this iteration of Warhammer on Game Pass.
The game will be released on Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5, and PC only. The developers have decided against a release on older generation consoles, unlike Activision. Let’s hope developers continue this trend and focus their upcoming games on the latest-generation consoles.
