The game was even praised by several game devs and also broke several records. While the game maintained a good run since its launch, the Helldivers 2 player count has been dwindling for the last couple of months. It has now reached a milestone that the developer wouldn’t have wanted.

Helldivers 2 Isn’t in a Great Shape Right Now

Helldivers 2 topped the Steam charts soon after its release and managed to sell over 12 million copies in just the first three months of its launch. However, it also suffered player loss due to several issues and now only a fraction of those players are jumping into the game.

The game has struggled to keep players engaged in recent times. This is now showing as Helldivers 2 has dropped to less than 10,000 concurrent players since its release back in February 2024.

As per SteamDB, the game’s player count dropped to 9,796 players at 9am UTC on July 22, 2024. The player count has been on the decline for the past few months but this is the lowest number that the game has recorded.

The all-time peak count of the game is 458,709 players. These are the numbers on PC alone but the same could be the case on PlayStation as well. However, it has now bounced back as there are over 29k players in-game at the time of writing.

The game’s player count hadn’t gone lower than 100k even during the PSN controversy but it seems like the lack of new content is catching up. Fans have said that the PSN requirement has done “some damage” to the game.

Players have also said that the game has been out for over six months and the hype around it has now died. Many also said that the lack of new and engaging content is the main reason behind this.

It can be said that this was expected as there wasn’t much added to the game for the last couple of months. However, Arrowhead isn’t giving up and is now bringing the biggest update yet to the game.

The new update drops on August 6 and will add new difficulty level 10, new bots and bugs, new mission objectives, and terminid Larva. Fans are excited about the update and hope that it’ll bring fun back to the game.
