While Keanu Reeves is notable for playing many badass figures onscreen, in real life, the actor is famous for being one of the nicest blokes in Hollywood. But apart from being one of Hollywood’s most wholesome figures, the John Wick star also continues to maintain an optimistic worldview and had a sage answer when asked about his perspective on death.
On his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actor’s response to Colbert’s question about death had everyone in the audience stunned.
Keanu Reeves’ Simple Answer Left Stephen Colbert Speechless
For millennia, death has been both fascinating and terrifying to humans for its mysterious nature, as it can’t be said for certain what’s exactly beyond our mortal existence. When proposed the same question and asked to share his perspective, Keanu Reeves had a pretty straightforward and profound answer, which left the audience present in the room too stunned to speak.
To Stephen Colbert’s “What do you think happens when we die”, the John Wick star replied:
I know that the ones who love us will miss us.
The simple yet elegant response left Colbert too staggered to speak for a few seconds, which was then followed by a rounding applause and one of the most earnest and respectful handshakes on TV.
Reeves’ answer stems from the actor’s personal experiences, as he too has dealt with the loss of his loved ones. But despite losing his best friend River Phoenix to overdose, and the love of his life Jennifer Syme to an automobile collision, the actor hasn’t given up on his optimistic view of life.
Keanu Reeves Keeps on Thinking about Death All the Time
His discussion with Colbert wasn’t the lone instance the actor shared his viewpoint on the subject of death, as, while speaking to BBC, the Constantine star revealed that he is thinking about death all the time. In his attempt to make peace with the inevitable, Reeves shared that he hopes that death makes one appreciate life and the relationships that we share even more.
He said:
I’m 59, so I’m thinking about death all the time… Hopefully it’s not crippling, but hopefully it’s sensitised [us] to an appreciation of the breath we have, and the relationships that we have the potential to have.
It’s not surprising to see why he continues to amass a massive following, as apart from being one of the nicest figures in Hollywood, his wise view of the world further makes him fascinating to viewers.
