However, a certain kind of Elden Ring player prefers to use shotguns in the game. Well, a version of a shotgun that fits the theme, and might just work if you think about it.

Among the many comments that spoke about the game’s overall themes and gameplay changes players would love to see, a comment by user Turok_N64 stood out.

The player suggests that the game can benefit from a new type of scaling: Light Bows but with a twist. Instead of simply powering up in terms of damage, scaling this weapon should also allow it to be used like a shotgun.

A close-range Light Bow attack like this can quickly close the gap when fighting an enemy and also cause devastating consequences for anyone who chooses to fight a player up close.

Could the Game Benefit from More Weapon Types?

The arrival of Shadow of the Erdtree introduced eight new weapons to the game. Some of these work well at a distance, distinguishing themselves from swords and other melee weapons.

However, weapons like the Light Bow often remain a niche, and not many players use it as their primary tool for battle. Instead, it’s simply more reliable to go for something like sorcery spells or any sword for that matter.

Given the open-ended nature of the game, it’s hard to imagine a player feeling out of choices when it comes to weapons. It’s almost as if every player has the freedom to build their unique playstyle.

A Soulslike title such as Remnant: From the Ashes is a faithful representation of what it would feel like to have more guns in a FromSoftware game. This could create a new niche for players to explore, and maybe even give the studio better ideas for content updates.

Not only would this be fun in PvE, but it could also be deadly to face when going against fellow players in a deathmatch-esque scenario. Imagine being invaded by a player who’s waiting for you to approach them. Next thing you know, you’re devoured by a Light Bow.

What are your thoughts on an idea like this one? Do you think certain weapons should be changed for improved close-range combat? Let us know in the comments below.
