Fans could see the excitement on the face of Kevin Feige when he appeared at the world premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine in New York City. During the press day of the film, he was happily chatting with a few outlets about Deadpool 3 and other Marvel projects. He also had a few things to say about James Gunn‘s DCU as the shared universe prepares to kick-start this year.
In his interview with Cinemablend, Feige shared his thoughts on the distinguished competition between Marvel and DC. While fans of both these comic book companies may have an ongoing rivalry between them, Feige welcomes competitive filmmaking from both companies. He shared that he always welcomed DC’s slate of movies to go up against Marvel.
He explained that more films from DC meant more great films in theaters for the audience to go to. He also respected some of the fans’ preferences for one company’s movies over the other. During his comment, he also mentioned the success of Glen Powell‘s Twisters at the box office.
He also added that a lot of viewers didn’t know the distinction between Marvel and DC as they often confuse one with the other. Feige was once congratulated for the success of Xolo Maridueña‘s Blue Beetle. He shared with Cinemablend:
I’ve always said yes. Because number one, I want to see great movies. And number two, I want there to be great movies in theaters for audiences to go to. And in between our movies, be reminded that going to the movies is an incredible and singular emotional activity. So the more great movies there are…
Twisters this weekend is overperforming. I haven’t seen it yet, but I can’t wait to. So that’s exciting. And then when it comes to the distinguished competition, as they say, a lot of people don’t know the difference. Somebody just said, ‘Congrats on Blue Beetle’ to me! People don’t know.
Maridueña’s Blue Beetle was one of the last films to come out of the earlier DCEU before Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC. However, the character would make a return to DCU (and definitely, he’s not in the MCU!).

James Gunn’s Superman is currently in the filming stage. The film had its first outdoor schedule in Cleveland, Ohio last month. The set images of David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nathan Fillion, Isabel Merced, Edi Gathegi, and Nicholas Hoult were widely circulated on the internet (via @DCUBrief). Feige had seen these paparazzi shots and had a positive statement about the film.
He shared that the film looked really great and added that Gunn is one of the best directors out there. Feige shared with Cinemablend:
I’ve seen the paparazzi shots that I’m sure everybody else has seen. It looks great to me. James is the best.
The official pictures from the film are not out yet, except for a photo of Corenswet in costume (via Instagram). However, if the leaked images managed to impress Feige, it appears that Gunn is doing a great job with the film. The film is all set for release on July 11, 2025.
Meanwhile, Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters this Friday.
