Actor Matthew Perry passed away last year, leaving a void in the hearts of many who cherished his work on the hit sitcom Friends. Given the charming and humorous personality Perry projected on the screen, it is hard to imagine the actor having an unlikely grudge against any of his peers.
However, Perry not only expressed his dislike of actor Keanu Reeves but seemingly also voiced his displeasure with Ryan Reynolds. While Perry’s grudge against Reeves might have been unfounded, his reason for not liking the Deadpool star is rooted in his career. Here is why Perry likely had a grudge against Reynolds.
Matthew Perry Seemingly Held a Grudge Against Deadpool Star Ryan Reynolds
Matthew Perry became a household name for his portrayal of Chandler Bing in the acclaimed sitcom Friends. The American-Canadain actor sadly passed away in 2023, aged 54. However, according to reports, Perry was unhappy with Canadian actor, Ryan Reynolds.
In an exclusive report from RadarOnline, published months before Perry’s passing, an insider claimed that the Friends star disliked the Deadpool actor as he felt the latter had copied his style in one of his earliest shows, Two Guys and A Girl.
That series set the template for Ryan’s whole voice as a performer and eventually as a writer and producer.
The insider made the above statement regarding Perry’s alleged grudge against Reynolds and his performance as Michael “Berg” Bergen, which was one of his breakout roles.
That’s all it would have taken.
The insider added the above comment, explaining that Perry was deeply hurt as he did not get even a single mention from Reynolds. The source stated that an acknowledgment from the latter would have quickly resolved the situation.
Furthermore, the insider also claimed that Perry had unresolved feelings about Reynolds copying his character’s persona and dialog delivery for over twenty-five years. Hence, if the insider is to be believed, Perry likely took his disdain for Reynolds to his grave.
Matthew Perry Had Expressed a Dislike For Keanu Reeves
Ryan Reynolds wasn’t the only Canadian actor Perry showed a strong dislike for. In his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, Perry used some harsh words for Keanu Reeves, implying he harbored a hatred for the John Wick actor.
Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?
Perry’s memoir included the above lines before they were removed from the revised versions of the book.
Despite Perry using strong language to express his dislike for Reeves, ideally known as the nicest person in Hollywood, the Friends actor did not hint at a reason behind his grudge. However, Perry later apologized to Reeves and removed the references in the revised editions.
Furthermore, Perry revealed that he did not intend to be mean to Reeves in particular and instead chose a random name to express his feelings. The actor also stated that he had personally apologized to Reeves since they lived on the same street.
