Jennifer Lopez is often hailed as a timeless beauty on social media and by her fans. Known for following a rigorous fitness regime, the actress-singer is often envied by fans for her youthful appearance despite her being 55 years of age. However, she recently found herself at the center of a social media storm, when she posted a photo of herself on her Instagram account on her birthday.

Dressed in a white swimsuit, Lopez looked as beautiful as ever. Yet, soon after posting the photo, an Instagram user @goob_u2, pointed out that the photo she had posted with the caption ‘This Is Me…Now’, was actually badly and visibly edited.

Your caption says ‘this is me.’ This is you after you edited it!

State the social media user after pointing out Lopez’s badly botched editing skills which made a towel rod and cabinet behind her look crooked. He then pointed out another photo of hers, which surely looked edited, making a door behind her look crooked and bent.

The craziest thing is it’s like not that expensive or hard to edit these pictures the right way. And you got all these celebrities with endless money… If you’re gonna be a fake hold a** your fakey!

Stated the social media user as the actress disabled the comment section on her Instagram account soon afterwards. As the post criticizing Jennifer Lopez for editing her photos went viral, fans were quick to comment and criticize the star for setting unrealistic beauty standards.

Jennifer Lopez as a public figure in the showbiz certainly must feel a lot of pressure to always look her best at all times. Yet, at the same time we are all humans, and looking anything less than perfect is perfectly normal, whether you are a celebrity or not. While certain toxic fans would love to criticize celebrities even then, such a backlash seems manifold better than being accused of editing.

After the post highlighting Lopez’s bad editing fail went viral, several fans expressed their disappointment and frustration over the singer’s apparent lack of authenticity and promotion of fake beauty standards.

It’s so sad that everyone’s saying give her and other celebrities a break. Do you realize this is what us women as little girls have always wanted to look like? & our daughters will want to look like the next up and coming celebrity… -@karissa.mschrorder

I don’t know what’s more egregious; the fact that the edits are so blatantly obvious it’s insulting to think no one will notice OR the fact that she absolutely does not need to be doing this. -@its.ran.not.ren

Imagine how sad it is that some women look up to an image that doesn’t even exist in real life. -@thais.wellness

Don’t be fooled by the curves that I got, I’m still Jenny from photoshop, used to edit a little now I edit a lot. -@if_lost_return_to_gym_

I saw it and I was like, no way, she can’t make it this obvious. Does she think we’re blind? @gargamel4e

As fans continue to call for more transparency and authenticity, especially on social media platforms, Lopez is not the first celebrity to have posted edited photos and contributed (whether intentionally or not) to unrealistic beauty standards. While fans continue to use social media to voice their concerns, this recent controversy serves as a reminder of the fine line celebrities have between maintaining their brand image and promoting a realistic portrayal of beauty.
