While things seemed great on the surface, as players get deeper into this title, some are finding that it falls short in critical areas, particularly in its combat mechanics. However, other people seem to think this is a problem of perspective more than anything. What’s the real issue at hand here?

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn‘s launch on Xbox Game Pass has invited many players to give it a try at no extra charge. While it seems good in concept, one Redditor rants about how their high hopes for the game were let down by its current state.

They detailed several issues, starting with the combat mechanics, which they found to be mediocre despite some positive reviews.

Acknowledging that the game comes from a smaller studio, they still had some expectations on it. They found the parry timing “abysmal,” claiming it doesn’t work half the time or the enemy doesn’t get affected by it “the way they’re supposed to.

Enemy spawning was another major issue for OP. Sometimes, they encountered situations where they couldn’t interact with objects as the game would say there were enemies around, yet they couldn’t spot any.

Suddenly, then, an enemy would load into the area as they looked around, not that they were hiding out of sight. The obscured map was another issue, which isn’t a surprised after previous complaints about the HUD. After three hours of gameplay, OP gave up on the game but mentioned they’d come back if it these issues were fixed.

Not many people gave this post attention, but the few that did seemed to disagree. One player, who completed the game fully, clapped back at OP’s criticism. They found the parry window pretty generous, claiming any problems with it are due to user error.

OP hit back with clips of enemies suddenly popping in. While one was a case of not seeing the enemy, the other appeared to be a bug.

Another player said that, for a game made by a fairly unknown publisher, it did better than AAA games like Starfield, Dead Island 2, and Redfall.

They do admit it is rough around the edges, which is what OP tried to convey in their initial post.
