Hugh Jackman Had a Candid Reaction to Ex-wife’s Unfortunate Miscarriage
Hugh Jackman played the role of Wolverine, making his first appearance in 2000’s X-Men. However, around the same time, Jackman was also trying to have a baby with his then-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness.
During an interview with People, Jackman spoke about the struggles he and his ex-wife faced when they were trying to conceive children. Jackman revealed that his wife suffered two miscarriages as biologically having children became difficult for them.
We struggled, a couple of miscarriages, IVF. It was not easy, it was difficult obviously, particularly on Deb.
Jackman made the above statement, candidly detailing his and his ex-wife’s struggles with biological pregnancy. During an appearance on the talk show Katie, hosted by Katie Couric, Jackman shed further light on the difficult experience of miscarriage.
The Deadpool & Wolverine actor stated that while miscarriages weren’t rare, they were rarely talked about. However, Jackman admitted that talking about the experience had helped him grieve the loss of his unborn children.
Hugh Jackman Discussed Adopting His Children With His Then-Wife
After realizing that he and his ex-wife could not have children biologically, the couple turned their attention to adoption. During the same talk show appearance, Jackman also explained his and his ex-wife’s decision to adopt a child. He said (via People):
To be clear, Deb and I always wanted to adopt. We didn’t know where in the process that would happen, but biologically, obviously, we tried and it was not happening for us.
Jackman and Furness adopted a son named Oscar, who was born in 2000. Regarding the birth of his son, Jackman stated that all his worries and fears washed away with the arrival of Oscar. The couple later also adopted a daughter, Ava, born in 2005.
Jackman was spotted with his son in New York, in 2024, shortly after the actor announced his separation from Furness. According to reports, Oscar completed his high school studies while Ava entered high school in 2019. For the most part, Jackman’s children prefer to remain away from the limelight.
