Joaquin Phoenix and veteran director Todd Phillips shook Hollywood in 2019 when they released the iconic DC film, Joker. With a stellar performance by Phoenix and a great storyline, the film was simply extraordinary.
Wanting to see more of this crazy clown, a sequel was soon announced. Joker: Folie à Deux has generated obscene buzz and seems to be all that the internet has been talking about. However, Todd Phillips did clarify a certain topic that fans were dying to know.
Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker And Robert Pattinson’s Batman Will Never Meet
As much as it hurts to say, director Matt Reeves’ “Reeves-verse” is a separate entity within the much larger DC shadow. With Joaquin Phoenix giving an iconic performance for the Joker, fans were hoping that he would meet Batman soon.
However, it seems that The Hangover director has some other plans in mind. With Robert Pattinson being the only Batman existing (at the moment), fans were really excited to see whether he and Phoenix’s Joker will have a showdown or not.
In an interview with Empire Magazine, Phillips revealed that Arthur Fleck aka Joker in his movies is not a criminal mastermind. Hence, he would never become Gotham’s criminal mastermind.
We would never do that. Because Arthur clearly is not a criminal mastermind. He was never that. Arthur has become this symbol to people, This unwilling, unwitting symbol now paying for the crimes of the first film, but at the same time finding the only thing he ever wanted, which was love.
The sequel is also going to introduce Lady Gaga as Arthur Fleck’s lover Harley Quinn, and the trailers are looking awesome. In his talks, Phillips stated that Arthur Fleck has always been looking for love.
Exploring that dynamic with Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn, Joker’s psyche and sanity will be further tested and pulled apart in the sequel. After all, we all know how terrible and beautiful love can be. And that… is what fans are most excited about.
Todd Phillips’ The Joker Only Ever Needed Love
We mean… look at Homelander. That’s what happens. The Joker is a complicated character with a backstory that is worlds apart. From the nihilism philosophy to wreaking havoc, the Joker is a force to be reckoned with (without the superpowers!).
Arthur Fleck is on a mission when he falls in love with Harley Quinn. With this Joker falling in love, it seems that the world is going to tear itself with how the new dynamics might affect his psyche.
Taking to their social media accounts on X, fans talked about their hype for the upcoming movie and how excited they were.
With the world excited for another Todd Phillips masterpiece, fans are clearly ready for the Joker and Lady Gaga. The sequel, titled Joker: Folie à Deux is set for a release date of 4 October 2024 in theaters across the U.S.
On the other hand, Joker, released in 2019, received a rating of 8.4/10 on IMDB and went on to earn a whopping billion dollars at the global box office. The iconic 2019 film is available to stream on Max in the U.S.
