Being around Sheldon Cooper is not an easy task. Apart from being a walking and talking encyclopedia, the character would truly test somebody’s patience. In this regard, Meemaw would be the perfect cornerstone of support; however, in Young Sheldon, there’s another character who’s shown nothing but an uncanny ability to tolerate the young prodigy’s annoying quirks.
The character in question would be Dr. Grant Linkletter, played by the talented Ed Begley Jr. In the show, Linkletter treated Iain Armitage’s character with godlike patience that even Meemaw was not capable of.
Dr. Grant Linkletter Showed Extraordinary Patience With Iain Armitage’s Sheldon Cooper
Prequel to The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon dives into the formative years of Sheldon Cooper. It offers the audience a clear childhood vision of the character they know and love. Since its premiere in 2018, the show has expanded the Sheldon Cooper universe and has tried to fill in the narratives that were left wide open in the original sitcom. Filling in Jim Parsons’ shoes is not an easy feat, but Iain Armitage pans out to be a worthy successor in the prequel.
While TBBT gave a glimpse of Sheldon’s Texas upbringing, it also omitted several other key figures from his life. For instance, Dr. Linkletter, who’s a pivotal figure in Sheldon’s life as shown in Young Sheldon, remained absent from The Big Bang Theory. He was not only a key figure in his life but also somebody who showed him immense patience and understanding.
That’s how he was presented on the show, but people on Reddit have their own theory on how the character must be annoyed dealing with Sheldon Cooper’s quirks. A user on Reddit posted a picture of Dr. Linkletter with the caption “Describe this guy.” This was enough for others to chime in with their own views.

Dr. Linkletter is a physics professor at East Texas Tech and plays a pivotal role in Young Sheldon. As Sheldon’s academic advisor, he also endures his constant questioning and inability to understand sarcasm. But despite the minor issues, Sheldon Cooper deeply respects Dr. Linkletter’s intellect. So, given his huge presence in the prequel, it remains a mystery as to why he wasn’t introduced in the original series.
Iain Armitage reunited with his on-screen family for the taping of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage
Iain Armitage recently enjoyed a heartwarming reunion with his on-screen Young Sheldon family when he visited the set of the upcoming Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. A spin-off to Young Sheldon, the show will follow the lives of Georgie and Mandy as they navigate marriage and parenthood. The production for the same has officially kicked off on July 25, and Armitage’s Instagram post is the hype that the audience needs at the moment.
Alongside his picture, he also captioned the post, “What an exciting honor to attend the first taping of Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage!! It’s always fun to be on the Warner Brothers lot- I grew up there! -and then to get the chance to see so many familiar faces that I love.”
He also added that he wanted to let the audience know about his favorite scene from the spin-off. But obviously, he’s not allowed to, further giving the audience a sense of mystery as well as a chance to use their imagination.
Further, given Sheldon and Georgie’s rapport on the show, it will be intriguing to see how his character will be portrayed in the spin-off. And to witness what his niece or nephew will call him, Uncle Sheldon or Uncle Dr. Cooper.
You can stream The Big Bang Theory as well as Young Sheldon on Max.
