For what many believe is an intentional move by FromSoftware, one of the selling points for the latest Elden Ring DLC released last month is the tough bosses introduced in the Realm of Shadow, a feature taken from the base game’s playbook.

However, while many believe the expansion’s final boss, Promised Consort Radahn, is the end of their nightmare, another optional boss in the Scadutree Base proves them wrong otherwise.

The Scadutree Avatar is similar to the Erdtree Avatars found in The Lands Between. After defeating it at the Scadutree Base, players are awarded Miquella’s Great Rune, which can be further used to negate the empyrean’s charm effect in the final fight.

However, there is a long fight awaiting the players before they get rid of the Scadutree Avatar for good. The boss, featuring three different phases with varying movesets, has proven to be a challenge for many. Mentioning it in a post on Elden Ring’s Reddit forum, fans have come together and agreed that they are having a hard time against the boss.

While nearly everyone shared their mutual trauma against the boss, some players stated how it felt like fighting a classic Souls boss, present in the earlier games. This proves why having prior experience with a Souls game can prove to be a huge advantage in The Lands Between and the Realm of Shadow.

The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC offers challenging terrain for the players to conquer, and while it might not exactly offer many answers to questions related to the lore that players have been waiting for, it still knocks every other aspect of a DLC out of the park, proving why Hidetaka Miyazaki remains the best when it comes to level design and world-building.

Despite not exactly offering what fans have been waiting for, like an end to the Gloam-Eyed Queen saga, the Elden Ring DLC still manages to go over a few loose ends and provide some backstory, including the origins of Queen Marika.

FromSoftware’s biggest expansion yet also brings with it new and tougher bosses than the ones present in the main game, including Malenia, Blade of Miquella. A testament to this is the presence of Messmer the Impaler and Radahn, two of the toughest bosses in the recent DLC who have seemingly taken an oath to make the players’ lives hell.

And despite many items and weapons being rendered useless in front of these bosses, there are fortunately several other builds out there that can make fighting against these bosses feel like a breeze and are worth checking out.
