It inadvertently might have highlighted the absence of a very big feature from the first Space Marine game, and people are hoping the hints aren’t foreshadowing what they think it is—Chaos customization. If it is being left out or class-locked, some people are ready to withhold their purchase entirely.

Fans of Warhammer 40K are starting to worry that the highly anticipated sequel is completely leaving out a beloved feature: Chaos Space Marine customization.

A Reddit user dropped an in-depth post explaining why they believe Chaos Space Marine customization might be absent in the upcoming sequel.

Mounting Evidence That There Will Be No Chaos Customization

They point out two main reasons for their concern. First, the trailers showcasing Chaos Marines tie each class to a specific traitor legion without showing any class variation within those legions.

Plus, there’s no visible variation in armor or color for these marines, which is a red flag for OP.

Then, there’s the leaked gameplay. The game’s customization menu is set in a loyalist battle barge hub. This could mean that only loyalist marines might be customizable.

The leak also mentions that traitor legions can apply pre-heresy colors and emblems to their loyalist marine, but there is no mention of full Chaos Space Marine customization. OP fears that the traitor legions might be locked to certain classes.

Is Space Marine 2’s PvP and Operations Modes Only for Loyalist Factions?

In the first Space Marine game, players could customize their Chaos Space Marines, choosing from different factions for online play.

Some are even considering skipping the game altogether if this beloved feature is not included. One user is concerned that the game seems focused on campaign and PvE content, with PvP and Chaos customization possibly being an afterthought.

Another reply offers a different perspective. They suggest that the sequel might allow players to choose from different presets rather than customizing specifics.

For them, this potential limitation isn’t a deal-breaker, especially since the game’s monetization will likely come from cosmetics. They’re mainly interested in the PvE content, which offers a lot of mixing and matching as we’ve seen.

One player, after having played the leaked dev build, says that heretics might not even be locked to classes. They’re able to apply Death Guard colors to every class, which is a positive sign.

That being said, things can change. Until the developers say more or the game releases, it’s hard to speculate on the extent to which Chaos customization exists.
