Deadpool is one of the most iconic anti-heroes in the Marvel universe because of his weird antics and unhinged nature. The Merc with the Mouth leads a successful trilogy of films and is one of the lucky few characters to jump from the Fox era of X-Men films to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The character is a fan-favorite in the comics and did well in the movies, it is high time for the anti-hero to receive his video game adaptation to keep up with the likes of Marvel’s Spider-Man and his good friend, the Wolverine from Insomniac Games. Here are a few reasons why Deadpool should have another run in the game industry.
#5 Deadpool Already Had a Video Game and Deserves Another
The game industry saw the potential of the character years before his live-action debut, not counting the poor attempt made in the mediocre X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009, and took a gamble on the Merc with a Mouth. The project was released in 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 then later remastered for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The gaming community had mixed feelings about the game but it shouldn’t stop other game developers to try and make another one. Perhaps the second time is the charm and will give the character the video game he deserves.
#4 Deadpool Is a Fan Favorite Because of His Wild Behavior and Capabilities
Hardcore fans were introduced to the comic book counterpart and impressed with his ability to break the fourth wall to interact with the readers, something the live-action adaptation perfected in spades. Game developers can use this to their advantage in designing the bloodiest and grittiest video game without restraint.
Deadpool’s healing factor allows him to take serious damage without thinking about the consequences paired with his skills with guns and blades making him a major threat.
#3 If Marvel’s Wolverine Can Get a Video Game, Then So Can Deadpool
If there is one other hero with a healing factor who could endure the nonsense that comes out of the Merc’s mouth, it would be Logan. The character is one of the most famous faces in the X-Men lore and the live-action films.
Insomniac Games has been working on the project and despite recent controversies and security breaches, the developers assured the gaming community that the game is going well, however, they did not share any other details.
If a dark and violent character like Wolverine can get a game, then Deadpool should receive the same treatment.
#2 Marvel Games Received a Redesigned Logo and This Could Bode Well for Deadpool
The success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe inspired the gaming division to take things seriously and apply a similar strategy on how to utilize their properties. Marvel Games unveiled a new logo during the San Diego Comic-Con and it gave fans hope for a shared universe made in the same vein as the live-action movies and quality like Marvel’s Spider-Man.
Other solo projects are in active development and it would be a no-brainer to pass on this opportunity, especially with the hype Deadpool is generating.
#1 Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine Is Already a Massive Hit
The Marvel Cinematic Universe will never be the same after these two legends are no longer outcasts of the shared universe who were previously blocked by legal issues. The success of the team-up movie will likely benefit the character and his reputation, it would make sense for the company to offer Deadpool to game developers given the back-to-back success of Marvel Games.
The success of the first R-rated movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a sign that Kevin Feige is pushing the boundary, it is time for game developers to do their part and give Deadpool another chance to flourish. Hideo Kojima could develop a spinoff game set somewhere in the multiverse featuring Deadpool and other characters.
