When James Gunn officially announced that Peacemaker Season 2 was in the works, fans were visibly pleased. After all, the John Cena starrer was a rare DCEU project that still was in the fans’ good books.
And with the news that director James Gunn is set to return for the second rodeo, it looks certain to retain the elements that made it the success it turned out to be. And in a development that would send fans into a frenzy, Gunn might not be the only person who is about to make a return in Peacemaker.
A blast from the past in Peacemaker
John Cena’s Peacemaker was first introduced in The Suicide Squad, starring alongside the likes of Idris Alba, Margot Robbie, Karen Fukuhara, and Nathan Fillion among other stars. The character was one of the central members of the team, going on to become a fan-favorite in no time. But there was one character (okay, many) he had special beef with – Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag.
Flag, one of the few characters who played a pivotal role in both the Suicide Squad movies, would see his arc come in the 2021 film. His end came at the hands of Peacemaker, who was under orders from Waller to protect the contents of a certain confidential drive from leaking. But word has it that we might still get to see him in action real soon, as he looks set to make a comeback in Peacemaker Season 2.
Rick Flag’s return is set to add a new dynamic to Peacemaker
The news has come as a shock to fans around the world. It is not everyday that you see a character come back from death, let alone someone who has no ability, unlike a certain DCEU character who defied death once. How James Gunn manages to bring him back to the fold remains to be seen.

The only thing we can rest assured of is the fact that if the co-CEO of DC Studios has put his mind to the task, it will not be something outlandish. And another exciting factor post Rick Flag’s entry will be the dynamics between him and Peacemaker, and how the two make their ‘peace’ eventually.

If he does manage to come back, this will propel him to the center of the storyline, making him a critical part of Season 2. Following the death of the Cow at the hands of the Task Force X, it is yet unclear what path next season will take. Flag’s additions might just multiply the options available for the 57-year-old.
