However, Seasmoke took it upon himself to find a new rider. As that happens, Prince Aemond threatens Aegon’s life to ensure he won’t speak of what happened in the war. Will the promise of war begin? Or will the slow chess match continue? We recap all the big events in House of the Dragon season 2, episode 7.

House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 7 Recap and Spoiler Review

We see Rhaenyra facing off with Addam and Seasmoke, attempting to figure out who and what he is doing with the dragon. He quickly bends the knee to the Queen and says the dragon sought him out, not vice versa. Rhaenyra says what he did was impossible and asks Addam to bring him to Dragonstone.

At Dragonstone, the Queen is confused about Addam’s lineage and tries to figure it out with Mysaria. Mysaria unpacks that Addam is willing to kneel before her, and she should accept it. Rhaenyra said, let’s raise the bastards to fight for them. As Addam settles into Dragonstone, Corlys Velaryon walks into the room where Addam asks to take some leave from the ship. He grants him this but doesn’t say much else, including not mentioning that he is his father.

A man approaches Larys Strong to inform him that Seasmoke has found a rider, but he tells them to keep it amongst themselves instead of telling Aemond. Queen Alicent has fled the castle to find solace in the land. At the same time, King Aegon attempts to walk (on the orders of Larys to his doctor) and falls flat on his face.

Who dies in Season 2, Episode 7 of House of the Dragon?

Lord Oscar has come to meet with Daemon at Harenhal and explains that his people aren’t thrilled with the idea of working with Daemon. Outside, a back-and-forth ensues amongst the men when Willem Blackwood stands up, saying he will honor Oscar and Daemon. However, Oscar says that Blackwood committed crimes (attacking the House Brackens), albeit on the orders of Daemon, and must face the consequences for his actions. Blackwood attempts to plead with Daemon; Oscar says if he wants their help, he must back this decision. Daemon steps up and pulls out his sword, chopping his head off.

Mysaria sends word to the town that Queen Rhaenyra is recruiting bastards with Targaryen blood in them. We move to the bar, where Ulf tells everyone he is a half-brother of Daemon, Rhaenys, and the late King Viserys. The guys suggest this is Ulf’s time to step up and get what he deserves. Like Ulf, many others are heading to Dragonstone to fight for a sliver of hope that they may become part of royalty.

As the men and women enter the castle, the dragon trainers suggest they will not stand for what Queen Rhaenyra is doing with these men or women as they are not dragon riders. She delivers a speech saying that each of them has left behind a life that they may never return to answer this call. She announces that Vermithor is the largest dragon outside of Vhagar. The men and women enter the cave where Vermithor makes their presence felt with an intimidating appearance.

Who does Vermithor pick as their rider?

Vermithor spites fire and chops at the men and women one by one. Hugh Hammer claws around to ensure his safety. After pushing a woman towards the dragon, Hammer stands before Vermithor, telling the dragon to kill him. At this moment, we see that Vermithor looked to have chosen their new rider.

In the heat of the battle, Ulf decides to run away and begins to navigate the caves. Unfortunately, as he works through the tunnels, Ulf finds himself within Silverwing’s (dragon) cave. At first, he stumbles because Silverwing repeatedly shoves him to the ground, but ultimately, she leaves him alone, meaning we might have another bastard to ride the dragon.

At the Redkeep, Aemond is getting a rundown of the latest events when a commotion on the land interrupts them. Ulf rides Silverwing through the keep, and we see Aemond’s speed in getting to Vhagar. Aemond rides Vhagar to chase after Silverwing but realizes it is a trap set by Queen Rhaenyra, standing with Seasmoke, Silverwing, and Syrax behind her, and he retreats.

Many have been frustrated by the continued puzzle pieces that need to be put together to prepare for the war in season 2 of House of the Dragon. That said, building these characters and preparing for these types of wars isn’t anything new within this universe (Game of Thrones did the same thing). This was by far the best episode since episode 4, “The Red Dragon and the Gold,” and the amount of dragon screentime was brilliant.
