While the game’s launch is still away, the beta tests have received positive response. This has made Overwatch fans think how the game could have been much more than it is currently if only Activision Blizzard had not killed it.

Overwatch Fans Are Still Mourning the Loss of Story Mode

Overwatch 2 is developed by Blizzard Entertainment and launched with story missions and were initially revealed during the sequel’s announcement. Fans were elated to know about this and expected for it to continue for long, taking the story of the hero shooter further.

However, soon after the developer decided to move against the planned Overwatch story mode and focus on the live game. It cancelled the story mode as it was forced to pull the “resources away from the live game” and players were disappointed.

One Overwatch 2 recently took to X/Twitter and said that Blizzard was doing very well with the story mode and praised the cutscenes. They said that instead of working on it and making it better it cancelled the story mode, calling it the “biggest bag fumbles in gaming history.”

Despite some of the campaigns being underwhelming, players really enjoyed the campaign missions. They were saddened to hear this and were disheartened to know that the missions being worked on during the cancellation will remain unfinished.

Fans Say the Game Was Much Better Than It Is Now

The player said that they miss the old game and majority of the Overwatch fans have agreed to them. Several fans have said that the game had the potential to be “great” but Blizzard blew it by canceling the story mode.

One player stated, “They blew it. They had it all and they blew it” while another said that the developer still brings some of the best “high-quality” cinematics but it feels insulting to the game and the fans.

They added, “What’s the point if there is no intention in actually capitalizing on story?”

Some players said that they stopped playing the game because of the cancelation of the story mode saying that its “a shame they got rid of it.”
