The First Descendant comes with a wide array of characters whose only mission is to save the futuristic sci-fi universe from a Zealot and his legion of cybernetically enhanced warriors.

Each character comes with a deep dive into a classic RPG role which makes it hard to master. players need to know which The First Descendant characters to unlock first.
5. Ajax
Ajax is an easy unlock as it is the second of three The First Descendant characters available once the player starts the game. Ajax is a tank and his main focus is shielding and crown control.
Ajax’s abilities:
- Orbit Barrier: Creates a shield in front of Ajax. Durability increases with Ajax’s HP and DEF.
- Void Walk: Leaps into the air and lands to strike and stun nearby enemies.
- Expulsion: Strikes nearby enemies, knocking them back.
- Hypercube: Creates a dome-shaped shield. Durability increases with Ajax’s HP and DEF.
- Event Horizon (Passive): Acquires Void Energy after using skills. When Void Energy reaches maximum, it improves skills and grants additional effects.
Players should focus on using Orbit Barrier frequently as it will build Ajax’s Void Energy, which improves Ajax who then can buff other characters.
4. Freyna
Players can get Freya early on in the game, though some RNG will be involved. After a completed side quest players will receive Freyna’s parts. It is important to note that Freyna’s Code piece is locked behind Amorphous Material.
Freya’s Abilities:
- Venom Trauma: Fires a Toxic Bullet that creates a Toxic Puddle, inflicting Room 0 Trauma and continuous damage to enemies.
- Defense Mechanism: Gains Plague Bodyarmor and inflicts Room 0 Trauma on attackers, causing continuous damage and poisoning nearby enemies.
- Putrid Venom: Throws poison to create a Toxic Swamp, inflicting continuous damage, Poison, and Venom-Soaked on enemies. Venom-Soaked enemies leave Toxic Footprints.
- Venom Baptism: Equips a Unique Weapon that inflicts Room 0 Trauma on enemies, dealing continuous damage and poisoning nearby enemies.
- Contagion Links (Passive): Increases Toxic Skill Power based on the number of nearby enemies inflicted with Poison.
Freya’s DoT toxic damage is what will melt any boss and that is primarily why players need to unlock her as soon as possible in The First Descendant.
3. Yujin
Yujin is easily obtainable through Research Albion or by spending real money (Caliber) to get the materials. Players need to speak with Anais, located in the southwestern part of Albion.
Yujin is for those who love playing support roles as he excels as the best healer in the game, which some might argue.
Yujin’s abilities:
- Solidarity Healing: Summons a Recovery Drone that attaches to allies to heal them. Upon dismissal, it recovers the target and increases their ATK through an Accelerant effect.
- Restructure Serum: Fires a serum that decreases DEF and inflicts Allergy on enemies. If a player attacks these enemies it heals nearby allies and grants additional healing to allies who kill the enemy.
- Stimulant Spray: Reduces incoming damage and provides recovery when Stimulation ends.
- Hyperreactive Healing Ground: Heals Yujin and allies, granting Purification and Immunity to remove and prevent debuffs. Additional recovery is based on the number of allies and enemies within range. Yujin also gains the Hyper Activity effect, increasing his ATK and skill power.
- Stop Overreacting (Passive): Reduces the time needed to rescue allies. Rescued allies gain increased Max HP for a certain period.
2. Bunny
Bunny is one of the flagship characters in The First Descendant. As such, she is easily unlockable as the game leads players to use her as the main damage dealer. Bunny is free and unlocked through the Bunny Crafting Training quest. Design for fast-paced combat, Bunny is one of the best characters in the game.
Bunny’s Abilities:
- Thrill Bomb: Summons an Electro Orb that attacks nearby enemies and inflicts the Electrocute effect.
- Speed of Light: Increases sprint speed and the amount of Electricity obtained.
- Lightning Emission: Deals damage to nearby enemies while moving, inflicting them with the Electrocute effect.
- Maximum Power: Releases a surge of electricity forward, with damage increasing based on the skill’s duration.
- Rabbit Foot (Passive): Charges electricity through movement. Bunny deals damage after a double jump landing on nearby enemies.
Bunny is a must choice for everyone starting the game and whoever learns faster her skillset has the advantage over others.
1. Valby
Another hero that every player must unlock in The First Descendant is Valby. While she isn’t free, Valby can be researched like other Descendants or bought for 600 Caliber.
If players opt for Valby, she will become the main DPS thanks to her powerful abilities, speed, and area control. Valby can inflict Laundry debuff through her water-based attacks, dealing continuous damage.
- Bubble Bullet: This skill is a projectile that creates a small puddle, which inflicts g continuous damage and Laundry debuff on enemies.
- Plop Plop: Creates a large puddle, allowing Valby to dive and reappear at a chosen location within it, dealing continuous damage and again inflicting Laundry.
- Clean Up: Transforms Valby into a Liquefied state, increasing movement speed and defense while creating a damaging water path that also inflicts Laundry.
- Laundry Bomb: Fires a bomb that pulls in enemies affected by Laundry and inflicts continuous damage.
- Water Intake (Passive): Reduces Mana consumption when using skills while standing on water.
