During an interview with Kanzenshuu, he said,

“In battle, the most important thing is the size of your ki and your control over it. Ki as a concept of course includes such spiritual powers as energy [genki], courage [yūki], and right-mindedness [shōki]. No matter how much you train, there are limits to physical strength, and the only way to overcome that is through ki. I think Goku was able to approach the mightiest warriors in the universe through strengthening his ki.”

The late mangaka confirmed that control over ki was why Goku is habituated to winning in fights. He might not be the sharpest mind in the room, but when it comes to training, he gives his very best. His training was not light. While traveling to Namek, he was training under 100x Earth’s gravity.

One of his greatest features is that he also trains his mind along with his body. Staying calm, reading his opponents, suppressing ki, controlling his emotions, etc., have helped him rival the Gods. There is a reason why he is regarded as the strongest anime protagonist ever, and that is his mastery over ki.

Son Goku’s Journey Has Been Nothing Short Of A Miracle

Son Goku started to show his Saiyan trait as soon as he got his senses. He used to love fights. He went to train under the Turtle Hermit. It was his first step towards mastering ki. He learned the Kamehameha that required him to trap ki within his palms and project it towards his opponent in a full-blown blast. He lost multiple times before he tasted victory at Budokai Tenkaichi.

In Dragon Ball Z, he sacrifices his life twice to save his friends. Even though Goku had won many battles, he began his journey with losses. Dragon Ball Super showcased his Godly strength, which surprised all the Gods of Destruction and Angels. Even after four decades, he is still growing and learning to control his ki.
