Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill have worked together in the DCEU before, becoming an iconic duo for many fans. What will happen if we add Wolverine to the mix too? Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is growing at such a rapid speed and with the whole multiverse aspect of it, there is no limit to what might happen and where the stories might go.
Henry Cavill has already gotten a taste of what it’s like to play Wolverine and Zack Snyder has plenty of experience directing superheroes. Therefore, in theory, Zack Snyder directing a Wolverine film with Henry Cavill in the lead should work. However, it seems like fans are totally opposed to the idea.
Fans Don’t Want Zack Snyder to Direct Henry Cavill as Wolverine
Fans were shocked to see Henry Cavill playing a variant of Wolverine in the newly released Deadpool & Wolverine. While it was fun while it lasted, a fan had a crazy idea – what if Zack Snyder barged into the MCU to direct “Cavillerine”? Unfortunately, the idea was not met with much enthusiasm from Marvel fans.
Fans were totally against the possibility and even went as far as to state that Snyder should be kept away from the MCU and Wolverine. A user stated that they were still upset with how Snyder ended up “ruining” the most perfect Superman casting, which is of course, up for debate.
While some didn’t want Snyder in the MCU, others were against the idea of Cavill joining the superhero universe, too. A fan rightly pointed out that Snyder’s tone would not match that of MCU’s.
Here are some of the things fans had to say about Snyder potentially directing a Wolverine film:
Lmao – I love Zack Snyder so I would watch it, but I also don’t think his tone matches the MCU. He understood Superman and Batman moreso than anyone else (who isn’t Christopher Nolan).

Keep Zack Snyder as far away from the MCU as humanly possible

Henry is perfect as the next Logan. Keep Snyder away from Wolverine please..he already destroyed my favourite superheroes and their team.
I'm still pissed at him for ruining the most perfect Superman casting ever.

No Cavill and no Snyder. Amen.

You do understand that they are trying to fix the MCU from recent disappointments and not burn it to the ground like the DCEU right?

That would be a horrible movie

Snyder previously stated on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast that he was close but “not terribly close” to directing a Wolverine film. While things didn’t end up working out, the director believes that he could “for sure” direct one.
Why a Wolverine Directed by Zack Snyder Might Not Work
User @HillbllyAnalyst makes a solid point stating that Snyder and MCU would have a tone-match problem.
Snyder’s films are more motivated by politics and philosophy which would not work too well with MCU films. Further, the director is known for his dark and broody superheroes which again, is widely different from the superheroes we know and adore in Kevin Feige’s world. MCU, most of the time, is light and funny whereas Snyder’s superhero films are more on the dark side with minimal to zero comedy in them.
Therefore, if Snyder were to direct a Cavillerine movie for the MCU, the tonal difference would make it difficult for the fans who are so used to funny and breezy superhero films. DCEU to MCU would be a drastic shift as the universes are poles apart which would pose an even bigger challenge for Snyder.
Not to mention that it will be difficult for fans to see someone in the place of Hugh Jackman in the MCU after the actor has given more than 2 decades of his life to the role. All in all, it would take a ton of effort and then some if Snyder was to join the MCU with Cavill.
While this is a good topic to have a hearty discussion on, it might all be fruitless in the end as Snyder has already stated that he has lost interest in making superhero films. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker said apart from characters Elektra and Daredevil and a Dark Knight Returns adaptation, he doesn’t want to direct any other superhero films. In his own words, “I don’t have the excitement for it that I used to have.” Looks like it’s the end of an era.
