The debut of XDefiant has been long-anticipated by gamers around the globe, but with its highly successful release, players are jumping in and trying out for themselves! This free-to-play first-person shooter brings phenomenal fast-paced action, along with various Factions that offer powerful abilities and gadgets.
Just like all games, the developers have kept the shooter engaging by providing regular updates and new additions. However, with the last couple of patches, Ubisoft has nerfed shotguns in the game to the point they don’t mirror the developers’ intentions to provide fast-paced action.
XDefiant Weapons Goes Against Developer’s Focus on Movement Mechanics
It’s a known fact that XDefiant focuses heavily on movement mechanics to establish itself as the Call of Duty killer. The game features smooth, fluid movement where players can easily slide around the map, quickly take cover, and outplay their opponents. The movement system rewards gamers for having twitchy reflexes and smartness.
The game’s unique movement mechanics have pushed players to be more aggressive, meaning the matches are always fast-paced. However, on Reddit, one player feels that the recent shotgun nerfs are going against the game’s fast-paced movement system.
What’s everyone’s thoughts on the shotgun penalty?

The problem with XDefiant shotguns is that they come with a heavy spread penalty whenever you’re crouching, sliding, jumping, or mantling.
What’s worse is that they don’t even have headshot multipliers. Shotguns completely restrict your movement and slow down your pace. This makes you vulnerable during close-quarter combats,
If Mark Rubin and the team want to stick to the game’s core philosophy, they must buff shotguns and not make them punishing for players. The developers can do various things, such as cutting down on penalties, improving headshot damages, or introducing new attachments to boost the weapon’s capabilities.
XDefiant is Still a Buggy Mess That Must Be Fixed
It’s a known fact that longevity is the biggest issue when it comes to live service games that are looking to be the next Apex Legends or Fortnite. Still, XDefiant has definitely gotten off to a generally good start, with a lot of praise for its mechanics and comparisons to other shooters in the genre.
However, just like most online games, it is plagued by various bugs and glitches, which has made the title quite troublesome to play at times. These player complaints prompted a response from Rubin, who explained the reason for the game facing such technical difficulties.
The developer’s response might frustrate gamers who were hoping to see the game’s major bugs patched out as soon as possible. However, some players might appreciate the developers’ frank explanation of the problem.
Regardless, the game still stands as one of the top shooters in player charts, and the studio will soon six some of those technical issuers before interest in the title starts to evaporate.
