While the game has made many promises gameplay-wise, people still feel like something is missing with the lack of a playable Japanese male assassin character in the game. However, after discussing the possibilities of a new DLC, some fans have some ideas on how that could be implemented.

There are several layers to the controversy surrounding the new Assassin’s Creed game, and Yasuke’s inclusion is just one of them.

Currently, the two protagonists of the game are Yasuke, a male samurai of African origin, and Naoe, a female Japanese assassin.

One of the biggest problems people seem to have is that there’s no playable male Japanese assassin in the game, but one player’s idea might quell this controversy.

It started when a Redditor posted on the Shadows subreddit asking people about their ideas for a post-launch character DLC.

Ubisoft had already announced that the game would have a few expansions come out later on, and OP wanted to know what playable characters people would want to see added to the game.

OP said they’d want a Kyoshin-styled samurai akin to the one in For Honor, as they’re drawn to the vibe of a “soft-spoken, gentle-bladed samurai.” Someone calm and collected who can take down groups of enemies in one stylish swoop.

The Community Pitches Ideas for Male Assassins

One player sarcastically mentioned that the Assassin’s Creed Shadows DLC would be the perfect idea for the studio to finally add in the Asian male assassin that people have been complaining about ever since the protagonists were revealed.

They suggested a DLC following Naoe’s father would be interesting. His name is Fujibayashi Nagato, and unlike Naoe, he’s an actual historical figure; the leader of the Iga Clan.

According to the game’s lore, Naoe trained under him and became a member of the Japanese Brotherhood of Assassins.

In response to this comment, OP jokingly said that Ubisoft must be looking up every Watanabe from the same period to add to the game as a native male assassin.

One reply shaded the studio, claiming it didn’t want to “properly represent Japan” and would probably include Chinese or Vietnamese characters as a DLC instead of a Japanese one.

Another reply suggested adding a Korean character DLC set during the devastating Imjin War (1592-1598) when Japan conducted several invasions on Korea.

That would certainly provide a lot of depth to the story, and it would be interesting to see how our two main protagonists of the base game react to such events.
