Taylor Sheridan’s intensity remains undeterred when it comes to his work — be it the controversy-riddled series Yellowstone or the Oscar-nominated film Hell or High Water. But apart from his love for the Southern tranquility of owning horse ranches, not much is known to the fans about his private life.

Sheridan’s invaluable skills as a writer and his overarching imagination as a builder of worlds, however, do not stop with the Texan confining himself to words on paper. The Yellowstone creator is as capable physically as he is intellectually and Cole Hauser, unfortunately, can confirm that first-hand.

Cole Hauser and Taylor Sheridan Battle It Out as Men Do

Not with words, but with fists. The two stars who were acquainted with each other before anyone else on the cast roster of Yellowstone were quick to appreciate each other’s work in the industry. However, when it came to disagreements, both found that throwing down fists was a quicker way to find a resolution than words or cool-headed rationality.

In an interview with Men’s Journal, Cole Hauser recounted his second time meeting the man who would go on to make the actor a household name within a couple of years. Justifying his fight with Sheridan, the Yellowstone actor explained:

I’ve probably been in [a fight] on every continent. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with fighting. Sometimes I’m just tired of words, so let’s beat the shit out of each other. Maybe at the end of it, you’ll buy me a Guinness and I’ll buy you a Bushmills, and we’ll be done. It’s kind of what guys do.

Although roughhousing is not the first image that comes to mind when imagining the life of actors and Oscar-nominated filmmakers, Cole Hauser’s reputation rather benefits from it. Considering his own upbringing on a ranch and his rough-and-tough approach to life, the arc of Rip Wheeler finds more credibility when played by an actor like Cole Hauser.

Taylor Sheridan and Cole Hauser Get Into Again

While their first fight was easily resolved in a good old-fashioned manner, Taylor Sheridan and Cole Hauser’s lawyers can be found circling the courthouse over their most recent disagreement. The legal battle was founded over a logo as the coffee companies that Sheridan and Hauser owned were stuck in the muddy waters of controversy.

Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch filed a lawsuit against Hauser’s Free Rein on November 21, 2023, on the grounds of “trademark infringement, unfair competition, and false advertising” [via NBC News]. The former’s initials B and R form an intertwined design which is similar to the latter’s F and R. Considering how Hauser’s coffee company launched 4 months after Sheridan’s, the lawsuit may favor the plaintiff in this case.

Meanwhile, Bosque Ranch finds itself earning a name, besides the coffee brand, due to its equine facility which serves as the filming location of Yellowstone. Currently, the two companies are interlocked in a legal battle while the two Hollywood stars race to reach the finish line of their Paramount series.

Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2 will premiere on Paramount+ in November 2024.
